62 heater core
On my 62 the heater core had a valve to open and close the hot coolant flow. Along the way the valve must have broke and someone silver soldered a quarter into the tube. SO I have a 90* ball valve. I have looked for a replacement and cannot locate one. The 64 and up must be different as I see them listed even my build book does not show it ?? Maybe I am missing something here. if some one has a idea please let me know, I hate the fact that it does not work like it should... or maybe hot water was always running through it?? dunno . Thanks

No that is not it, I will have to post up a picture. It seems that all the new heater cores are made for a 1960-1966 universal fit. The valve that came with my truck bolts to the core and has the valve and feed tube as one part, it seals up with a gasket. Cable operated... I can buy one that sits in line and make a bracket but thought maybe someone had a line on where to get the OEM part.

Cable operated as you say ; but probibly a universal part as well. |

Thanks that looks like what I have seen. I came across a vacumm version as well but my engine make none or at least not enough to keep it closed or open which ever way it works and I had thought about rigging something up but just more work. I am on a search I guess at this point for a OEM heater control valve or complete unit.. If anyone out there has one or the other drop me a line..

Unless you are doing a stock resto for points, the factory valves are more trouble than they are worth. And judging from the prices, the outfits selling them seem to think they are worth a lot.

Being that I have never had it, never knew it was a problem child. I know I can make a unit to hook up and run the cable to it, just was trying to keep it as easy as I could without more fab time. the simple one valve fits all will work and I can make a bracket to hold it and install it close to the core. Or even run a longer cable .. these are nothing more than a lawn mower cable set up. SO thanks for the info .. a bit more work nothing I cant handle.

I operate mine with a toggle switch. The switch activates an electrically operated vacuum valve (solenoid) which connects to a vacuum operated water valve. The links show what the parts look like. When heat is desired, flipping the switch sends hot water into the heater, and the amount of heat is regulated by the 3 speed fan switch.

Thats the one tommy thanks!!!! No vaccum on my engine... well if you count 1-2 inches max .... think extreme small block.. huge soild lifter cam, single plane high rise intake etc..
