Will a 4L60e hold up to a 502ZZ crate motor?
I have a stock 4L60e tranny and I still need to order the stand alone computer. Planned on going with Keisler or Compushift. Their prices are 700-1200. My problem is I don't want to buy the controller and end up putting a new tranny in later. It's a daily driver and will not see the track. I can have a level 3 700r4 or 4L60 built for around 1200-1500 bucks. Any thoughts on this....

Why not go 4l80E? You may get the 4l60e to at least not break and self destruct, but it will still just be "getting the job done" instead of actually handling the stress reliably.

Re: Will a 4L60e hold up to a 502ZZ crate motor?
I've had my stock 5.3 running for less than 2 years. I'm on my 2nd rebuilt 4l60e and it started slipping a couple of weeks ago. I might drive kinda hard my friends brother had a nicey built one in his ls1 camaro it came apart a few times.

I wouldn't run it stock. My stock 4x4 99 5.3 silverado had one and it had to be rebuilt around 130k. Hard parts were worn and cracked when they took it apart. Wish i could remember more of the details

Also he is here in DFW too, might make a difference to you, maybe not.

Re: Will a 4L60e hold up to a 502ZZ crate motor?
Thanks for the help guys I think you all just helped me decide. I know a 4l60 is basically the same as a 700r4. I have talked to someone that builds them to hold 700 hp and he even gave me a few references and said he would honor a 1 year warranty and unlimited miles so I believe I am going to pull the trigger and avoid the electric mess....

Re: Will a 4L60e hold up to a 502ZZ crate motor?
I guess that was my point, they can build a 700hp capable 700r4, but what could the build a 4l80e to? 1000+? then you wouldnt be taxing it all the time like you would with the 700. But hey, im sure it will be ok and you will only have to have it rebuilt a couple times which would be cheaper still then the the 4l80e.

So you're going with the 4l60e? I'm confused but then again it doesn';t take much.

Re: Will a 4L60e hold up to a 502ZZ crate motor?
Jake at Jakes performance built a 4l80r for me. Machined the speedo housing to accept the mechanical cable, shift software, TC and shipping 2950.00....Not sure he can do that again though. I wouldn't have any other tranny. I love being able to tailor the tranny to my application. When I talk about the truck I brag about the tranny ...not the motor....thats messed up

Re: Will a 4L60e hold up to a 502ZZ crate motor?
Lol... no I am going to sell the 4L60e. I have been told it's basically the same as the 700r4 anyway. But I found a builder who has a good reputation for making the 700r4's hold up. He says his level 3 trans 700r4 will hold 700hp. He gave me a year warranty with unlimited mileage. I talked to a couple of guys with his setups in a few chevelles. They have the same package and motor setup that I have and spray 100-150 shots for the last year and hadn't had a problem. Since mine is a street truck all motor crate 502 I'm just gonna roll the dice...
