uhaul trailer

ok i just bought a 71 c10 LWB i live in san diego
and i need to take the truck to north eastern CO

would i be able to put it on the car trailer from uhaul or tow it with a dolly?

Ya as long as you strap it down right and know what your doing i dont see a problem. You might want to invest in a tarp to protect it from rock chips and salt.

I would advice against the tow dolly.

These trucks are really too wide for the tow dollies, and since the steering wheel doesn't lock, the wheels will turn as you turn. The fenders of the to dolly could hit the door if you aren't real careful. I got a parts truck with one once, wouldn't do it again.

The trailers aren't too bad. The trucks are pretty wide for them too, but they fit (at least a SWB does, I think a LWB would too)

I towed a 68 panel wagon from Hobbs NM to dang near Austin Texas on a u-haul trailer. It fit, but was not balanced well, and at 55 would start to whip, so we made the trip at 50 mph. Just towed a 67 lwb 3/4 4x4 on a good tandem axle trailer, and could hardly tell it was there. Tow dolly bad idea for anything besides across town.

I could see that....there isn't any way to adjust how much tongue weight you have. When I towed my truck, there wasn't and engine or transmission in it, so it was OK. With an engine and tranny, there'd be a lot more weight on the tongue.

You never want to have a tarp or cover on any vehicle that is being towed on an open trailer. The wind will whip the cover/tarp and you will have paint damage when you get to your destination.

I used one of there trailors to haul my 71 lwb 6 hrs. It was fine only prob is the guy at the uhaul place forgot hook it up right and I almost lost it.

A fullsize pick up is too big for a dolly, I would not advise using one. I did tow a full size blazer on a dolly once but only about 10 miles and it was too big for it. It is not safe, they are really designed for small front drive cars.

I towed one and it sitting on the edge of the tire flat form and rubbing the fenders on the tow dolley it was a 3/4 ton it told ok at 55 and 60 if it were me a would trailer it

In regards to a trailer, you would have to check with U-Haul to see if a 127" wheel base will fit. I've had a shortbed and a Blazer on the two I've rented. You will also need a strong hitch and probably a 3/4 ton truck to handle the tongue weight. If it will fit, I might try to load it backwards to see if it balanced better. They are nice heavy trailers, but take extra large webbing ratchet tie downs as all you have with the trailer are the "over the front wheel" web/ratchets.

I pulled my 70 C-20 from Reno to KY then back home to central WI. Dolly wont work if you have larger tires. I have 16's on mine I ended up having to buy a dolly in NV because the Uhaul dolly (the widest one they have) was too narrow. 3 tires, 2 rims and 3 days later I got it home. Trailer it.

My uncle and I ( member reefer55) brought his blazer back from Vancouver, approx 1200kms. We only had two issues.
First, the truck had low profile tires on it and we had to place 2x12 under the wheels so that the rims would not rub on the side rails.
Second, there is no way secure the truck at the rear of the trailer, we just stopped and bought some proper tie downs.
The trailer towed nice and straight. We pulled it with a 2007 ford f-150 ( ya ya I know). The truck had no problem pulling the loaded trailer, even through the mountains.

I ment a proper fit tarp for these trucks an strap it down tight so it doesnt flap. When the PO halled my truck on the trailer the window got chiped and the headlight...

I agree with avoiding the car dolly.
I have used a u-haul trailer to move my C20 before. I had to reduce some air out of the front tires to get the trailer straps to come down and lock solid enough,(but I also am running 33" tires for the mileage).

The u-haul trailers are barely wide or long enough for these trucks,(if you have the long wheel base, like mine), so you'll have to drive the truck onto the trailer just right, and certainly make sure it's tied down well.(Reads; even to the point of slightly compressing the suspention with the trailer hold-downs to make sure there is little to no sway or bounce as it's pulled down the road). U-haul trailers have so shocks and their trailer suspention is generally this side of worn out, which means it's harder on you truck's suspention than it should be just riding on trailer.

I don't want to get into a sniping contest with you but you will never be able to tie the tarp or cover down tight enough so it won't flap.

Just picked up a 71 C10 longbed myself. Get the trailer. UHaul wants to know what you're hauling. I told them a Ford Crown Victoria. That way you get the "W" trailer which is designed to handle 6500lbs and its "W"ider between the fenders. Mine fit perfectly like it was made for it. Hauled it behind my Cummins dually at 65MPH for 200miles. Pulled like a dream.

I'm going to be moving from WA to KS later in Dec and will be pulling my 68 with my own trailer. I'm going to build a wood rock deflector to help protect the paint from all the sand/rocks that would surely chip the paint.

I hauled a 68 C20 on their longest trailer. It fit fine. But the straps over the tires barely fit the 33 inch tires. Bring extra straps if you got the bigger tires. Towed it with one of their Boxvans. No problems. They will ask what you what your towing with also. To make sure it is big enough and rated for it. If not, No rental for you. Hence why I used one of their trucks too.Good luck.
