1969 gmc
I have a 69 GMC Custom c10. It has six lug wheels, gauge package, interrior light, and aftermarket A/C. I bought the truck almost nine years ago for $1800and I am just now getting back to working on the truck, two kids later and a college degree. I am going to convert my truck to 3/4 ton by using a 73 c20 I found for $700, the truck is complete. My question is will I need to use 3/4 ton springs from 67-72 trucks or from the 73 truck when I put the 14 bolt in? The truck has leaf springs now with a 12 bolt. I know the front subframe will work, just have to drill two holes and slot it. Thanks for any input and thanks for a great website. I have learned alot in the last few weeks by going through the threads on this site. I will try and post some pictures later. My plans are to convert and rebuilt the c20 suspension, paint frame, 69 camaro gas tank, repair cab corners and bodywork, powertrain, duplicolor paint myself, and do the rest while I drive it.

Not to start an argument, but are you sure you want a 3/4 ton? If you're planning on towing or carrying heavy loads, that would be a good idea, but the ride is definitely harsher than the 1/2 ton. I sold a 1/2 ton and bought a 3/4 and I didn't like it nearly as much.

The spacing of the leaves is different so you will have to move the perches. Also the 73 has 2.5" wide leaves while the 69 has 2.25" wide leaves. Easiest thing to do would be to get some perches and weld them to the new rear to fit your stock springs. If you are upgrading to 3/4 ton then I'm guessing you are gonna haul with it, if so you could upgrade your leaves to handle the load by getting some helper airbags. Hope this helps get you on the right track.

As far as springs...C10's with BB's uses the same spring as 3/4 ton trucks. At least that is my understanding.

Thank you for the information. I plan on towing my 85 4runner to the trails and haul some wood. Would my setup be able to tow a light truck, w/ the 12 bolt and leaf springs? If this would work then I will do some more searching on disc brake swaps. The other reason I was going for the swap was so I could have disc brakes. I have 72 spindles, but I would like to keep the six lug pattern if I stay with my set up. Thank you once again for the help.
