Should I keep the lwb or build the swb?

Ok I'm new here, but i would like to get some input. I have 2 72 c-10s one swb and one lwb. The original plan was to build the lwb but i bought a swb parts truck for a grill, and some interior parts. But the more i thought about it i wasnt sure what i wanted to do. The swb has a good frame, and a nice bed the only bad part is the cab is not very good. Anyways my thoughts were to take the cab, front clip, motor and transmission from the lwb and put it all on the swb. The lwb is my main means of transportation, if i do this cab swap, etc. I'll have to buy another car cutting my budget on the build, or drive the 68 falcon my dad and i just finished and i hate to because he likes to drive it so much lol. Anyways heres some pics of the lwb let me know what ya think.

Re: Should I keep the lwb or build the swb?

I'd do a short bed next if given the opportunity. My last three were all lwb. Snipe your dads car and go for it. Maybe he'll help get it finished so he can have his car back? Anyway do what suites you. Welcome to the board.

I'm a LWB fan, but that's probably just because that's what I have. Either way, welcome and have fun with whichever direction you go!

Re: Should I keep the lwb or build the swb?

Thanks, i think i would enjoy a swb. but i was also wondering if i wouldnt be better off just buying a new cab and keep them both lol. The swb has a good motor in it. I know it would cost a good bit to do them both but i have so many options that i cant make up my mind.

Build both. But build the one that is more complete first.

Re: Should I keep the lwb or build the swb?

Keep the long bed the way it is. It looks cool, I wouldn't change it. I certainly wouldn't sacrifice it for the cab. Now take the short bed and build it like you want it. take it to the frame and then find all the pieces you need. there out there. Check swap meets, craigslist, ebay, and even the classified here on the forum. check out my project thats what I did. started with a short frame and worked my way up. How cool would that be have a 72 your working on while you drive the other. Most of on here could only wish, we could do!

Re: Should I keep the lwb or build the swb?

Travis,

I agree with keeping both. Tear the swb down to frame and get it sandblasted out at worth monument. Be patient and build it up piece by piece. In the end it will be perfect and you will be glad you did.

Welcome!!! keeep the long bed as your main transportation...find a cab and build the short bed the way you really want it at the end you could end up with a daily driver and a weekend show truck..

Yep. They are all over the place. Sad to see them in the salvage yards. But if we can save parts from the wrecked ones to finish the ones we have that is atleast something good on our part. You got a good looking truck there keep it that way. How about some pictures of the shorty pickup? I dont mind seeing it

Re: Should I keep the lwb or build the swb?

Well i think i could salvage the cab the more i look at it lol the floors need to be replaced and the driver door. the fenders could be replaced or i could glass them and repair but for now i think im just gonna hold onto it and keep working on the long bed next thing im gonna do i believe is replace all the weatherstripping and drop in a cam. I have a factory 350 rebuilt about 2 years ago. I have only had this truck about 4-6 months but i just bought a comp cam 280/480 new lifters, springs, timing chain, and all. Figured if i was gonna pull it apart i should go ahead and replace everything i could. Heres a couple pics of the parts, Im still waiting on the intake to come in then me and a friend are gonna tackle it.
