Re: factory oil cooler?
I had one on my suburban before I swapped motors. They were a dealer add on option for our trucks - not a factory option.
Pretty simple design. Just an adapter plate between your oil filter and the filter boss on your block that has a thermostat in it that allows oil to flow through the lines to the cooler and back again. Really only necessary if you drive the truck looong distances or tow alot in a hot environment, all it effectively does is add to the capacity of the oil system, keep oil temps lower, and extend oil change intervals by a little bit. |

Re: factory oil cooler?
Ah! huh! cool! dealer option. I definitely want to keep in on my truck throughout the swap. Not going to hurt anything and thats how the truck came. You can see the lines on the lower right of pic.

Re: factory oil cooler?
Yes, my Mil CUCV M1009 with 6.2 has one built in the radiator as did the 87 Crew I'm using for the donor parts.

Re: factory oil cooler?
My 1983 C20 454 granny 4 spd has factory oil cooler - not a bad option for hot AZ, plus this was ordered as a camper special. It also has a stock 7 quart oil pan, so it can use the extra cooling.

Re: factory oil cooler?
I had an 84 3/4t that was a 350, 408 when I got it, had the factory oil cooler on it. I'm sure my 89 crew has it too, but since I didn't pull the motor, not sure. Lines aren't there, but probly went with the motor.

Re: factory oil cooler?
Definitely available as a factory option ...RPO KC4
Popular with the trailer tow/camper units The lines leaked after a while so they were often disconnected. Also available as a dealer kit;a nos one sold on ebay last week |

Re: factory oil cooler?
100% accurate. You can call your local parts store for oil cooler, lines, etc. They were definitely a factory option.

Re: factory oil cooler?
Sorry for the misinformation then, thought that they were only a dealer option. I took mine out since I swapped motors and I didn't want the gunk from the old coller messing up my new motor.
Anyone know where to get replacement parts for them - I have everything just need a new cooler. Thanks |

Re: factory oil cooler?
I have a htread asking about some pix of how it is installed. Bough a factory one 2 weeks ago, my 78 came with one but was missing when I bought it.
I have the complete unit except it seems , from your pix, the brackets for the lines and cooler itself. If possible , no hurry or anything could you post or email me some pix of how the lines are run, any brackets for them and where and how the cooler is mounted. The adapter no problem there. Thanks, Steve SCJKOVACH@GMAIL.COM |

Re: factory oil cooler?
whoops, plus are those lines for the P/S cooler? pix of those would be cool too. If I can't find one I could bend one up. I am in the process of getting and nstalling all the options my 78 came with from the factory and not there when I bought it.
Thanks again, Steve |

Re: factory oil cooler?
My 75 has an oil cooler that sits in front of the radiator. Can't remember if its on the SPID in the glove box, or if its something the PO added.

Re: factory oil cooler?
I have an 86 with the factory oil cooler option. My lines are leaking and I can't find new ones anywhere. Has anyone bought these lines and if so, where?
