going to look at 1969 swb c10 need opinions!

I am going to look at this 1969 Chevrolet C10, this is what the ad says;

Nicely Restored. Chevy Pickup. Needs minor tuning and some paint touch up. Far below NADA Value. Call for all info and details.

Leaving area...must sell. asking $9900.00

1972 Grill. Truck is 95% complete. New 350 crate motor, rebuilt 350 transmission, new square bore 4 barrel Holley carb, new carpet, new door panels, new inner and outer fenders, new grill, new grill shell, new bumpers, new exhaust, new inside and outside hardware, new chrome instrument bezzel, new chrome glovebox door, new windshield, new rubber on all glass, new vent windows, new tilt steering column, new blazer gas tank mounted under bed, new 4 core radiator, new paint inside and out.

my questions are...

1) does anyone here no the truck or has anyone looked at it and can tell me more about it?

2) whats it worth in todays market?

3) this will be my first C10, what specific things to look for on a C10? rust areas to check, common problems etc.

this is all the pictures that I have seen of the truck and I did talk with the owner, he said the engine bay and inside cab was all stripped down and painted when the truck was painted red about 7 years ago and after that is when the new crate motor and tranny were installed, not driven much over the last 7 years but some chips int he paint etc. also the truck needs finishing touches such as repair temp gauge, new steering wheel, gas gauge, window wipers, radio and things like that. its a driver! Thanks for any advice or opinions -Scott

I talked with the owner again tonite, said the cab corners where replaced before it was painted but that all that need to be done as far as rust. the bed inside and out was rust free, it also has the front disc conversion kit for 70-72 style, power steering and brakes, bumpers, grille trim and handles are all new etc, heater, speedometer, wipers etc work exhaust is new w/flowmasters... The guy is going througha divorce and needs to sell asap...as of tonite I can get it for 8K but its 2 hours away and I can't get up there till Saturday. I plan on buying it Saturday -Scott

Well that price is good or bad depending on what its like in person. Rust areas are the same as most other vehicles. kick panels, floor panels bed corners, cab corners basically al the bottom corner areas around the vehicle.. Looks like a solid truck but then again you can only tell in person. Here in AZ where I am several of these trucks are for sale right now in about that condition and have been for sale for some time.

looks like a very nice truck. the places i have seen with the rust are the car corners (guy said he replaced still might want to check just in case) the rockers and the floor are the spots i see the most. hope all goes well.

NADA values are grossly inflated for our trucks so that means nothing...Check under the cab at the inner rockers and the cab mounts....will show how nice the resto was and if there was/is other rust than the cab corners...check the lower part of doors for bubbles in the paint and/or bondo (maybe bring a magnet?) Also check over the wheels and in the front and rear of the front fenders/inner fenders for rust. Above the visors, etc.

Depends on how nice everything is and if it's what you want, but IMHO, that's a 5-6K truck if the paint needs touch up....

In certain areas of the country it would be less and others it's be an 8-9K truck simply because it's a running, painted, not rotted out SWB...

The "minor tuning" kinda could be something more serious. Many times sellers knowingly or unknowingly think that the engine needs a tune up but in fact there is something actually wrong with the engine. After rebuilds or replacement motors have been put in the cams are not broke in correctly or the rings didnt seat right. Both cauing the engine to perform poorly and its assumed thats its not tuned properly. Rust and drivetrain issues are the number one items to inspect carefully. Most everything else is fairly inexpensive to fix/replace. Look for excessive smoke upon startup and under hard throttle. If the engine idles smooth but doesnt make ood power it could be a flat camshaft. Just a couple ideas to be on the look out for....

It looks to be in good condition, but I don't know that it's worth $9900.

Re: going to look at 1969 swb c10 need opinions!

You would have to see it in person to know for sure, but I kinda wish I had found a solid driver and spent more money up front for it. I pieced mine together and still have close to 20k in it as is. Still need interior and 20" wheels/tires I want. Assuming no major mech probs and body is not hiding terrible body work or rust, I think 8 might not be bad. I wish I could have found a solid 5-6k truck when I started. I had a buddy pick up one that was a nice driver with decent paint for 10k about 5 years ago. I needed to be torn down to frame and redone to be really nice. He pull front sheet metal off to do body bushings and got bored with it. Sold it for like 5k.
Would have been perfect for me if I had not been neck deep in mine already.

Here are the online ad pics that show how it looked when he got it, and how it looked when he sold it. Made me sick when I found out. Not sure what it should bring in todays market, but he paid 10k back then for the truck you see below.

Re: going to look at 1969 swb c10 need opinions!

lloks like a very nice truck. check it out its better to pay abit more for a already done truck than to spend less up front for a basket case and end up spending twice as much in the long run.
if it was me knowing he needs it gone and its the wrong grill and bumper with somekind of tune up id go with 7-7500 cash in hand. driving 2 hrs and showing that much cash it would hard for him to say no.
good luck !
