Fawn Paint: Is there a lot of sun glare off top of dash?

When driving in the sun do you get much glare off the dash on a stock "fawn" colored dash?

I plan to paint my interior this winter. PO painted interior flat black, so I don't have experience driving the truck with the stock paint color.

Since my seats are black vinyl, as well as the gauge clusters in the Camaro dash in my truck, I have the option of leaving the top of the dash flat black, or making a cloth dash cover (dash covers are popular here in Colorado, the sun is quite intense up here).

Oh, I don't plan on doing the window tint deal either.

Any advise is sincerely appreciated!

when I did the repaint on mine and used the gloss paint, there is a little reflection but..I have the double hump dash which is angled more to the windshield, nothing that is bad enough to think there is a problem

Re: Fawn Paint: Is there a lot of sun glare off top of dash?

howsabout sprayin it with the satin coat? i've often wondered if the stock dashes were satin/gloss/etc. Anyone know. I'm reasonably sure my dash is original - although the rest of the interior is probably a re-spray (but not sure). But my dash has this cool satin, almost "pebble texture" coating in fawn. Here's a pic - not sure if you can tell how satin/pebbly it is. I always wondered what was "stock" - I like them when they are gloss in the stock colors or satin. Not sure how I'd do it if I were re-spraying mine.

Thanks to everubody for your thoughts and advice.

And Jocko.... your truck is awesome. Is the white stripe on the door panel a factory an original deal?

Re: Fawn Paint: Is there a lot of sun glare off top of dash?

lakeroadster, that's a good question - I've seen many trucks with the white stripe accent, so my assumption has always been that was part of the deluxe trim or custom comfort trim pkg or whatever it's called. On close inspection, the masking to spray them wasn't exactly "perfectly" done - but like I mentioned before, I do believe the doors and inner cab (except the dash) have been re-sprayed at some point. But I really can't tell - it's either an old restoration or it's a very well preserved interior. I do know SOME of the stuff is refurbished, etc. There's no way that seat is original (if it is, I'm one lucky trucker). Anyway, guess I didn't answer your question did I! And thanks for the compliment, much appreciated.

Re: Fawn Paint: Is there a lot of sun glare off top of dash?

here's a few pics that lead me to believe the white stripe was an original factory thing - I assume all these folks wouldn't have had the same aha custom moment when restoring... but who knows?!

1st 2 pics illustrate what I'm talkin about - i.e. same white stripe as mine.
3rd pic has no stripe - but you can tell the doors are re-painted since they match the exterior color of the truck (blue).
4th pic is a different twist - but it is a low mileage original truck - so they should be representing a factory scheme - but note it is not a custom comfort package - the exterior of the truck did have a deluxe aluminum plate - but NO side trim or white cove on the exterior.

interesting subj...

the white trim on the door panels are original to custom cab trucks only.jocko your 66 is correct with the white stripe.the 1964 and 1965 trucks had more of the door panel painted white on the custom cab trucks like the interior on the red and white truck that is in your last pic.in 1966 gm changed the dash to a flat metallic brown paint to reduce sun glare and this was the only year they were painted this way.
