Those with CS alt. need input please
I upgraded to a CS 105A alternator and wondered if anyone has run the extra heavy wire dirrectly to the battery or just run with the factory wire. My problem is my amp gauge reads discharge even though I checked at the battery and it is putting out 14+ volts. If I unhook the extra larger wire the amp gauge works. So any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Man I wish I could remember the details. Mine hasn't been wired yet, but I believe you need to have a diode/resistor (one of the two) added to get the amp-meter to run right which shouldn't hardly show anything, which is why they went to volt meters.
Sorry I can't help with the specifics, so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Re: Those with CS alt. need input please
No extra heavy wire is needed to the battery the original charge wire is the shunt for the ammeter and changing its resistance in anyway (including adding an extra wire) will affect the ammeters calibration. I would recommend creating a new alternator buss connection to replace the original buss pictured here.
You could run a single heavy wire from the alt to the new buss, keep the charge wire the same and if anything upgrade the wire going into the cab and pull power for any added accessories (fans, compressors, headlight relays, etc..) directly from the new buss. The key here is that the alternator powers your accessories and not the battery.
