LWB to SWB box

I am going to cut down my 57 lwb to a swb...what is the box side length from front to back so I know how much to cut off the front?

You need to cut approximately 9-1/4" off the front. That's the difference in the cab to axle dimension on the lwb and swb. But don't do it that way.

Just for once, wouldn't you really like to have the wheels centered in the fender openings? That's what I thought. So measure on your truck the actual cab to axle dimension and use that for cutting the box. This is the best chance you will ever have for getting it to look the way GM should have built it.

Re: LWB to SWB box

Great advice Ray. I think that if one looks at a short bed and long bed from that year side by side you will also see that there are a few extra inches more of bed sticking out past the rear fenders.

Here are two blatantly borrowed from the net photos that show a pretty stock long bed and a short bed 57 and the differences between the two. To get it right you will not only have to cut the front part and move the posts back but cut the rear part and move those posts forward also. What ever you do though, don't give that broke frame look with the droopy drawers look with the bed not lining up right with the cab.
