drop member and drag racing

If i lower my truck on the front from a 2.5" to a 3.5" and the rear from a 4" to a 6", will i need a drop member for drag racing? Just want to make sure the aluminum driveshaft doesn't hit. I already have shock relocators on it and the adjustable trac bar...

Re: drop member and drag racing

Mine's lowered 6.5 in the rear and I still have good clearance. I'm getting ready to add a drop member though, so I can have the exhaust cutouts and center the rear wheel better in the wheel opening.

Re: drop member and drag racing

I went with the Drop member and had Him put a offset in the lower loop.
Mainly because of the 5" drive line OD. I didn't have any down ward suspension travel before the drive shaft was resting on the cross member.
This is also a excellent piece do to the adjustment you get out of it.
With that and a pair of coil overs I think a truck should hook good with a little tuning.

Hell yes is a PORTER BUILT!
Its Rocks. Way better than the CCP one I had previous. Nate and his shop builds real nice stuff. It goes in real easy. The old one might be a hassle getting it out. couple of the upper rivets are a pain.

Re: drop member and drag racing

I know Porter build some good stuff, but I have a couple questions...

Is there really any added benifit over a modified stock x-member?

For instance, I think I made my adjustable lower control arm mounts prior to the cross member being available. So is there an advantage to porters over what I did?

I know the exhaust can pass through, but I can easily cut mine a little bigger with my plasma and clean it up with a flapper wheel, so is there an advantage to his unit there?

The next I'd point out is weight. His piece is definately built well and looks heavier than the factory piece. Is that the case? I guess in racing that would be a down fall..

Now I'm not trying to knock his piece at all.. So please don't take it that way. I'm just wondering if it would have any added benifits for someone in my position who has already modified there OE piece.

Re: drop member and drag racing

check this one out. I emailed nolimit to see if they would just sell the crossmember. I wouldn't have to undo the exhaust, just the driveshaft...

Nope. Super your mods are great. Only advantage is the drive line tunnel allowed me run a bigger OD DL.
I think his piece did way weigh less.

Porter built does a similar set up that I'm saving up for!
You should check it out.

Re: drop member and drag racing

I think his setup will allow you to adjust your pinion angle also...

68Kid - Does the rear sway bar help much?

Yes his does, for every hole its a deg + or - Super found that out when he modded his.
It works great for the road and the track. It seams to make the truck plant the foot print more square.
Only thing it makes the truck feel like the tires are a little more bound around tight turns with the spool.
I would like to build a set up like some the other guys are doing with the anti roll bar's.

Re: drop member and drag racing

68 C-10 Kid is right.. It adjusts pinion angle only with the arc change of the arm. So as it adjusts instant center it inherantly adjusts pinion at the same time, but you can not adjust them seperately.
