Your opinion on mufflers for 86 350?

Hey guys, my 86 has a pretty strong engine with an agressive cam and all that, but after the 3" collectors on the headers, it steps down to like 1 3/4" pipe and then goes thru some glasspack type mufflers, then dumps before the axle.

I like the dump part, but I'm going dual 2 1/2" pipe and wanted to know what mufflers would sound good but not break the bank. 40 series flowmaster?

I dont know. I need 2 1/2" single in and out mufflers of some sort, and wanted your opinion. Thanks!

heres a vid of it running now.

Re: Your opinion on mufflers for 86 350?

Spintech's sound great and have a much better reputation for flow than flowmasters do. The sportsman series are comparible in sound to 40 series flows but don't have the "tinny" sound associated with flowmasters.

Everyone is going to have an opinion on this though so you will just have to pick one and go for it. My friend has a very hot 350 in his truck and is running 40 series flows and it sounds really mean! I just don't like the "tinny" sound when he gooses it.

I went back and forth on this as I am building a motor for my truck right now and will be doing exhaust soon. On the one hand I knew how good my buddies truck sounded but also knew I wasn't crazy about the WOT sound. One the other hand I found these fairly new Spintech mufflers that everyone that has tried them seems to be raving about them. I have never actually heard them in person just on Youtube. They sound incredible though and have awesome reviews. I decided to take a chance on them. I personally went with The Prostreet 6000 series Spintech which I am guessing is comparable in volume to a 1 chamber flowmaster. The Prostreets are very small mufflers only measureing 4"x6"x12". As I said earlier the Sportsman series may be more up your alley. Good luck man!

Re: Your opinion on mufflers for 86 350?

I would stay way from Flowmaster, because you want to dump. Dumping the exhaust cause a bit of droning from any exhaust system, and flowmaster drone bad enough to start, it'll drive you nuts. I have Thursh welded mufflers, they are the same design idea as the Flowmaster super 40's and sound similar, but they don't drone or have that tinny sound.

I'm running a single 3" exhaust and cat into a Flow 40 muffler with the 3" inlet and dual 2.5 outlets dumped in front of the axle and love it,deep agressive sound

Flowmasters, with a cross over pipe, if you don't already have one. Flowmaster is the king of all mufflers.

I'll put up my setup against a Flowmaster setup any day. For power with an identical engine, I'll blow it away.

Re: Your opinion on mufflers for 86 350?

If you want a good cheap muffler get a Full Boar... they are pretty much the same as a flow master. I have a set on my 86 K10 and I love them and I am going to put a set on my M1009 with the 6.0 and it should be making well over 400hp.

Re: Your opinion on mufflers for 86 350?

Magnaflow or DynoMax. They are a straight through muffler and will make more power than a Flowmaster OR spintech. Plus they sound GREAT.
