Steering Colum Help
Hey,
I was just given a 84 tilt steering column from my cousin. I want to put it in my 77 that has the wiper switch on the dash. I would just like to take out the wiper/turn signal switch off the 84 tilt and just put in a regular lever for the turn signal....what modifications will I need to do? There seems like a whole lot of wires on the 84 that I don't know what their functions are and I don't know if it will fit the 77. So my question is....will it fit, can I take off the wiper/turn signal and just put in a turn signal, and will I have to run a whole lot of wires around? Thanks

Re: Steering Colum Help
The internal design of the newer column isn't going to allow what you want to do. You'd be better off trying to bypass the dash mounted switch and using the later model column mounted switch.

The module is generally mounted in the column area, I don't have a picture handy.

Re: Steering Colum Help
I forgot to get a picture of the column but here is a picture of an 84 column I dug up.....is the circled part the wiper module? If so I'm thinking I can run wires from the old switch to the hook up on this column and if it works I should have a multi-speed wiper system.....if it works....which is what I'm wondering....

Re: Steering Colum Help
I just did this 3 weeks ago, 84 tilt in my 80.
I left the wiper/washer in the dash. Just have to turn the plugs at the btm of the column upside down so they work with your harness. If you had cruise on the 84 that will be about 8 wires and a sep. harness. It's cool having a tilt in my 80. |
