engine re build

Hello,

I have a long block for my '98 suburban that I am putting some final pieces together. I have a couple of questions. The oil pump driveshaft retainer-that little plastic thing, does it just press in place to hold the driveshaft to the oil pump?

Also, I got a set of gaskets for the new (rebuilt) engine it has a rubber, one piece going around the front and back of the oil pan. No room for any RTV sealant. I am wondering if anything thin should be sparyed on or not?

Thanks for your help
Doug

Ya the oil retainer thing just snaps onto the shaft and then to oil pump.

I always put it silicone in the groove of the timing cover and rear main groove just for piece of mind but you dont need any with the one piece gaskets.
