Anybody running LED tail lights?

I was looking to use ones like this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...true&viewitem=

Are there better styles to use? I see they come in all shapes and styles. I would also consider using them for the front turn signals too.

Thanks for your input.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

I ran them before and run into the problem of them not working with the old stock flasher, I had to upgrade to an electric type.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

As sleplysal said if you run these, you might be able to not buy a new flasher if just the rear, although I only know of one person that did not have to buy a new flasher, if you run these in both ends you will definately have to buy the electronic flasher.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

$12.00 for shipping!? I would say hell no to the shipping.

I looked at their "shipping guide and for my zip, ordering 3 sets ( $27.00 price) they want $32.00 shipping UPS ground.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

Good point on the flasher.

It was free shipping on what I posted, but I just used that as an example.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

I saw where it said free shipping, but if it was free, then why have the shipping calc on there? weird.

I know LMC has LED light kits, they're 99 bucks but i wonder if they wired them for the flasher issue or not?

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

I had got the bulbs at autozone . I know that Chiefrocka ran LED light assemblies on his old 63. those looked sweet and were real bright !

Look into SuperBright LED based out of St Louis MO. They have a web site and their prices are reasonable.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

Check out this thread.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=290484

You need as many LED's as you can stuff in.

I have run all LED's for a couple of years. The rears in the thread above are very good at night, marginal in bright sun. I am running clear lenses with red LED's (amber LEDs in the front). The red lens is better.

Running the brake lights and the front amber lights draws only 1 amp from the battery. They take not just an electronic flasher but a flasher especially for LED's. LED flasher.

After reading the two last posts, I may stick to what I have. I didnt realize there is more involved and I want to retain the stock look.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

It seems I read on a forum somewhere in the past that the flasher issue exists because the LED amperage draw is too low and will not trigger the stock flasher. The electronic flasher trips with a lower draw and will therefore work properly. I wish I could remember where I saw that thread.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

True, you can buy just the diodes to run in line with the hot lead to the light for the rear only if you were only doing that section but still another 30 bucks on top of the lights, its simpler to polish the indide of the lens, and bucket and install 1157 bulbs. If you doing both front and back you`ll need the electronic no load flasher.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

Hi guys,

I found this thread and I would like to ask you guys for some advise:

when I run my normal bulbs. it looks like this, just fine:

when I put in my 1157 LED bulbs I ordered from Ebay, I get this result:

as you can see, when my normal lights are on and I also turn on the turn signal, the turn signal is almost invisible.

I already installed the electronic LED flasher, to make sure I can run LEDs.

I tested the blubs outside of the car and the problem is, that there is almost no difference between normal lights and brake or turn signal.

I even think (noticed) the only difference between the two is a small resistor in the bulb.

I now ordered these from ebay

and contacted the seller...he says that both contacts light up ALL the SMDs.

that will probably cause the same problem, that at night the brake and turn signal will not show, because the bulb is already ON!

please help!

This is one thing that turned me off. I have seen similar trucks with this issue.

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

My rear LEDs work fine but after I installed front turn LEDs I get no flash on front or back. I thought I needed the led flasher so I bought one from classic parts but still nothing and the flasher doesn't click or anything. Could the flasher be bad or maybe not a good enough ground? It has a ground wire coming off of it that I grounded. Thx

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

You may need the reverse polarity flasher, does your flasher have a black base? If not call the vendor

Re: Anybody running LED tail lights?

The two I bought from Classic parts is a reverse polarity unit. My dad put LED's in his crew and this is what made them work.
