283 & 3 speed power glide
I have a 283 with a 3 speed power glide. They came out of a 56 Chev Belair and ran when pulled. No idea of the value or if I should just keep them, rebuild and use as a back up motor for my 66 SB SS. Thanks

Re: 283 & 3 speed power glide
I don't think there is alot of demand for a 283. Maybe $100-$200? I actually crushed a couple of builder 283 engines. The trans would be a 2 speed if its a powerglide. Is it cast iron? I think those may be worth a little more.

Re: 283 & 3 speed power glide
The Powerglide would only be desired for an original restoration,if it's the cast iron as original to the car would be.The later cast aluminum ones are desired for drag racing...or original restorations. They are worth $75.
The 283 is a great engine and very sought after for original restorations and gas miserly engine builds. They are very under rated and make great power for a little mill, especially higher rpm applications and smaller vehicle V8 swaps. But,any motor not installed and running is only worth what a buyer is willing to risk.I agree with $100-$200,unless it's correct for someone who really needs it.then, maybe $300+.

Re: 283 & 3 speed power glide
Are you sure it is a 283, or is it the original engine to the car? If it's the original engine, it would be a 265. It also would have a canister oil filter, unless someone had adapted the provisions for a spin on later in it's life. If it's a 265, it may have a little more value to someone restoring a 55-56 Chevy.
