how to prepare the truck for winter?

i went out and started the '67 up today, and i had it going for 25-30 min, and the temp gauge didnt even pick up off 100. it was blowing some heat, but it wasnt even terribly cold out today. and suggestions how to get her prepared for the cold temps?

Even though I live in the California desert, it gets in the single digits sometimes in the winter. The only things I do is make sure my choke is working properly and if it's cold enough I'll stick a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to block the cold air flow.

its already been down below freezing almost every day here the past week or so, and we're expecting a snow storm sunday. yes, i said the S word...

Check you colant to make sure its mixed to avoid freeze ups that should be your #1 job...and before you do that you know you can throw a new thermostat in it for about $3 other thatn that I change the oil to avoid carbon in the oil doing any damaage inside som stable in the gas a few drier sheets in side and ALWAYS park it do the door in the cowl vent is closed this keep the critters out

Actually out here in the great Mojave, we're experiencing below freezing every night right now too.

coolant is good, just checked/topped off last weekend.
