I have an '89 4.3L s-10 with a digital dashboard. My temperature gauge maxes out and my oil pressure gauge drops into the danger level. This first only happened when I pushed in my cigarette lighter but now it happens all the time. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance Rick |

Have you had the dash apart recently???? I did that one time. If not check for a bad ground on the frame.

A friend of mine had a 93 Sonoma with a similar prob., he replaced a computer/ module that controlled the dash.

I actually replaced it last summer and it didn't seem to help. The gauges work fine until it warms up then the temp just climbs to the top and my oil pressure drops.

s-10 overheating
Overheating will lead to loss of oil viscosity (thinning) and of course lower oil pressure. Have you tried changing the thermostat and/or flushing the radiator. Also, small leaks in the chevy radiators are common and can cause overheating. This happened to me twice on my 93. Since you changed the dash module I would be looking for something under the hood. Radiator caps that fail can do this too.
No mechanic here-just a few ideas. |
