Some Questions From a New Owner
Hey guys, I recently bought a 1970 CST-10 2wd long bed, big block(still runs strong), auto, bucket seats, ect. I have wanted one of these ever since my sister had and old 72 in high school that my dad built up for her. I saw the truck was for sale by the original owner so I went to look at it this summer, and he didn't like my first offer. I went back a couple months later just as the snow began to fall. The truck was still there so I offered him 1000 cash on the spot. He accepted so I took it home.
The bad thing about it is that it was rolled back in '71 (yeah 1971) and the bondo on the roof needs to be redone. It could use a new driver side fender, grille, and obviously the notorious rocker panels. I have already began acquiring small parts such as taillight bezels (originals were beat up bad), interior dome light, some new mirrors, Chevy hubcaps, and some other small stuff. Pretty much my entire Christmas and birthday lists are truck parts (I'm a poor college student). As soon as 2nd semester is done my father and I plan on replacing the old points distributor with HEI, installing MSD wires, running the exhaust out behind the doors, replacing plugs, the big project of removing the ugly mustard colored paint that was slapped over the stock medium olive paint, and repainting it a brighter green and black. So I have a few questions, How do I remove the stock trim so that I can reuse it? Will i need new trim clips? What do you guys think from the pictures? I read these forums a lot, so general advice or wisdom to my situation would be handy. I included some pictures of the build sheet as well. Thanks guys, Mike |

Re: Some Questions From a New Owner
That is a nicely equipped truck. I see lots of potential. The lower trim will have some 3/8ths nuts on the back side. The ends of the truck will have some phillips screws. Some of them may have a push in style also. Which means you will have to get on the backside and squeeze it together.
Welcome to the board, Eric

Re: Some Questions From a New Owner
Hey Mista,
I'm in Wasilla and about one year ago I bought a '71 C10 from a guy down here. Been replacing body and engine parts the past year and finally got to drive it for a few days this fall before the snow flew. Driving these old trucks feels so right...... especially with Thrush glass packs and Cragar SS wheels Maybe we can help each other with the issues that come up being way up here (parts, mostly)..... |

Re: Some Questions From a New Owner
Yeah, the shipping on big items is what would kill me. I'm pretty sure the last time I checked it cost just as much to ship a fender as the fender itself. I will probably just try to find one from a junkyard. I will also probably try to save the grille as a new one costs just as much as the truck!(from LMC anyway)

My ex Father-in-Law lives on Finger Lake between Wasilla and Palmer.
If you've never been it's worth the trip. Pictures don't do it justice!

Re: Some Questions From a New Owner
UPDATE:
Well fellas after months of metalwork, cursing, justifying a 19 year old college kid spending 1000 dollars on paint for a 1000 bondo baby, and buying new reproduction parts as fast as I could earn the money, I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The Colonel should be on the road in two weeks, hope to get my new grille bolted on today. The paint is PPG Deltron 2010/11 Camaro Synergy Green. At 127.50 a quart, this stuff sure shows imperfections, probably worse than gloss black would. Regardless, it's exactly what I wanted, presentable and LOUD

Re: Some Questions From a New Owner
Here it is tonight everything installed on exterior but front bumper, taillight bezels and trim. Insurance starts tomorrow and I'm anxious to see how the maiden drive is. Interior needs the carpet, door panels, speakers, and new wheel to be installed.
