Need Letters- Going "Rat Rod" Now
Well, instead of spending the big bucks for paint now, it's going to have to be epoxy primer for a while.
I "need" (hahaha!) a set of ss letters for the tailgate. And I'm also hoping that someone might say it's okay to put the other tailgate trim on with a good 3M double stick. I have the clips, but really, really don't want to drill holes. I'll drill the two holes for the tail light bezel screws, of course. I know me. I'll drill 'em, bend the trim trying to use those spidery damned clips, get mad, and end up with holes where I don't want them and bent stainless. On the lettering, I've ordered some decals. But I figure you folks may be able to send me to a place where I can get ss (or even chrome if I have to) C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T letters like someone had for sale on the Forum a while back. Thanks.

Re: Need Letters- Going "Rat Rod" Now
just get some one-shot and paint the inside of the letters white. that truck is too nice to have the "r-word" label, you'll give true "r__ rods" a bad name

Are you wanting the existing letters stamped in the gate chrome or ss? THey make vinyl overlays that are sold on ebay. Or..... are you putting a band over the gate?

I ordered a set of die-cut chrome letter decals that go in the C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T insets, but I'd REALLY rather have ss letter inserts. I just can't find 'em.

Re: Need Letters- Going "Rat Rod" Now
Basically, here's a rough picture of what I'm shooting for. Thanks to a few of you guys for letting me use your nice trucks as "donors".
I'm using a roll pan, so the bottom half will all be black until I can afford paint.

Unfortunately those trim pieces are not Stainless Steel they are all made out of anodized aluminum, except for the trim around the handle. It is plated pot metal. LockDoc

where did you find die cut chrome letters? I have the chrome vinyl decals on mine, and I'm not really happy with it

Anodized aluminum works just fine for me. Better than the decals, I'd bet. Do you know where I can get them? Looks like miller6t9 would like some, too.

They come in black, white gray, chrome and, I think, red. Ebay. If you want I can send you the link. But they ain't what we're both looking for. From what you wrote, I think you already have some. We want metal, right? I know I do.

Re: Need Letters- Going "Rat Rod" Now
he's what I have now. if you could see it up close, you would see that the chrome letters arent smooth at all, besides the air bubbles, they just look wavy. I'd like to find some polished stainless like what is sold for Camaros and Corvettes |

Re: Need Letters- Going "Rat Rod" Now
Thanks. I'm ass-uming you're looking at the all black and not the photo shopped pic with trim and a rear bumper.
If you are, then I agree that a no-trim, flat black look is really nice. But I have this design thing stuck in my head that sees the view from the back with trim around the back window (it's in as of last week) and the same basic shape of trim against black on the tail gate. One coat of Night Shade on the back up light lenses, and I'm playing with going clear with Night Shade on the tail light lenses In the front, the clear turn signals are already coated with one coat of Night Shade, and I think I'm going to run the chrome bumper. I had the grill bezel polished and pounded out (Ouch!!! $275), and painted the original grill with dull aluminum. The pic below is where it sits (hangs) now, with the bow tie the color of the interior, and close to the color we're going to paint the exterior after we win the lottery. Point is, from the front, and with the exception of a chromed front bumper (for now) the design should be pretty much the same style as the back, with the shiny grill bezel in an oblong and the windshield trim following that design theme. And, with the 4/6 drop, I think it will be nice enough to look at.
