torsion bar cross member removal

I am in the middle of putting a 77 front cross member in my 62 and was wondering if I need to keep the cross brace that the rear ends of the torsion bars attach to. Do I need it for strength or can I just get rid of it?

Re: torsion bar cross member removal

I left it in my 1960 for several years after I swapped in a 1975 front end. When it came time for a new exhaust system, I gave everything a good look over and realized it was just taking up valuable space. The center section of the X is welded into one massive piece like a convertible frame. It’s been my experience that removing the torsion bar crossmember has had no effect on chassis strength.
