Anyone in CANADA!

I want to do the 700R4 conversion for my 71 and was wondering if anyone could recommend a transmission shop in Saskatoon, Regina or Moose Jaw that does really good work?

Thanks

Re: Anyone in CANADA!

You are the best trans guy you know.

Buy a book and do it yourself, it's way cheaper.

Is it for a TH350? If so I hear they are are pretty easy to rebuild and parts are CHEAP.

There is ALWAYS help here if you get stuck.

Sorry but that's the best info. I can give you.

Re: Anyone in CANADA!

I can't help you in your neck of the woods, but I went into a trans shop here in Victoria, asked how much it would be to build a 700R4 for my truck and was quoted $4500.
I didn't disguise my disgust much, normally I'm fairly polite, the next week I ordered a built up B&M TH 350 for $900 from GM.
Never wear a suit when dealing with an auto shop, they think your a sucker to be fleeced.

In Saskatoon Kens, Trevors or Hub. If you know a drag racer ask them where they go. I use Kens.

OUCH! 4500! Way to much! I think I'll call Ken's in the AM and get a ballpark!

Re: Anyone in CANADA!

All the transmission shops around me aren't very knowledgeable, I tried hunting down a TH400 kickdown setup and we will just say they didn't have much to offer. Granted Im sure the stuff they work on isn't usually classic, so I cut 'em some slack .

Good luck.

Re: Anyone in CANADA!

Bowtie overdrive is where I got my 700r4. with a special output shaft it bolts directly in place of the th350. I just moved the engine ahead to compensate for the extra length of the trans, I think it was about 13/4 inches. That way I didn't have to deal with driveshafts. I think it was $2400 delivered to the door. I got back when the Canadian dollar was 80 cents.
