edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
PO, put in a refreshed 75 350 from a sub. in the 67 3/4 ton 4x4 to replace a worn out 283. Used the factory quadra-jet, which happens to have an electric choke, and is not hooked up. I have a rebuilt 1405 i was going to put on the 68 panel, but am thinking about using it on the pick up. Wil the edelbrock 1405 work ok on the factory 4 barrel manifold from 75? The truck has sat since easter. The 1405 was rebuilt, then never installed a couple of years ago. what do ya'll think?

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
The Quadrajet has a spread bore, the Edelbrock is a squair bore, that means the secondarys are larger on the Q-jet than the primarys where the primarys and secondarys on the Edelbrock are the samer size.
There may be an adapter avalable but i have never had the need to look for one, i just swapped intake manafolds

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
I have a used edelbrock performer, too, just had plans for that and the 1405 on the panel. What would be needed to hook up the electric choke, or change it out on the quadrajet? It ran fine, just cold natured at start-up (duh) with no choke.
So I'm told by PO

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
looking for more thoughts on this. I put the 1405 on my son's F100 to get it started. Looks to be new, not remanned. Fired the ford 302 right off, idles smooth. Question is, will it do good on a 350 with a factory 4 barrel manifold? Looking for thoughts, as I'm ready to get the 67 tagged and working for a living. The quadra jet that's on there seems to be from a 454, which explains why it' smells like it's running rich. Runs great, idles smooth, great throttle response, just def. running rich.
Discuss.

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
That is a 600 cfm carb which should do fine on a 350. As mentioned above you will need a spread bore to square bore adapter which should be available at most auto parts stores.

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
You will need to either change the intake to a manifold that has the square pattern or get an adapter. A 2101 Performer will work, and there are plenty of companies that make adapters (trans dapt, Mr Gasket, Edelbrock). The electric chock just needs to get 12 volts power only when the ignition is on.
I just thought of something........are you using the stock manifold off the 283 or the EGR intake off the 1975 350? If it is the 75 350 Intake with an EGR the 1405 carb will NOT clear the EGR hold down bracket and you will have to change intakes.

Autozone has the adapter for the quad intake around 25 bucks...I have one on my 69 gmc that has a 76 car 350 in it...

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
The 350 in my `71 has the stock manifold with the 1405 (with electric choke add-on). It was there from the PO and it has the adapter which works well. I eventually added an insulator spacer to keep the carb from overheating.
I'll eventually install a Q-Jet to improve mileage.

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
1405 on my 350 with stock intake. Works fine.
As mentioned, just run a key on 12V supply to the choke wire. |

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
It will not fit on a stock cast iron spread bore intake. The hole pattern is completely different for the Edel/Carter/Holley square bore pattern than the Q-jet/ThermoQuad. You either have a aluminum intake for a holley carb (like a 350 hp /327 or a LT-1 Z/28 Corvette) to be able to run a 1405 without an adapter.

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
i would just hook up the choke just needs a 12volt wire that hot with the key on. i would rather have a q-jet anyday than any other carb i buy all i can find. If you have to use the edelbrock (not a bad carb) you can get an adapter no problem

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
I have an Edelbrock 1406 ( same as 1405 carb just auto choke) on the stock intake on my 396 and it works perfectly.

Re: edelbrock 1405 on factory 4 brl manifold
guess I could rejet the quadrajet, i'm told form the numbers on the carb that it was for a 454, and it smells rich. I don't have good luck working on carbs. Rebuilt a holley 4 barrel one time, caught it on fire.
I really wanted the edelbrock intake and carb for the 68 panel to replace the 2 barrell. Thanks for all the input.
