Question smog pump question

The 87 V30 shredded the alternator belt on the way to work yesterday and thankfully didn't die till I got it into the parking lot at work. After I got off work yesterday evening I had the wife pick me up and go to the parts house for the new belt. I replaced it in the lot, but it was cold and dark, and all I wanted to do was get it home where I could pull it in the garage to do further work on it. I opted to just cut the belt off of the smog pump instead of hassling with the bolts, since I couldn't see them anyway. My question is, can this harm anything if I drive it this way for a while (locally). Im not driving it far, it's just snowy and slick out, and I prefer the 4wd over my van in these road conditions.
It's an 87 V30 5.7 tbi engine. Any comments and advice is appreciated.

Re: smog pump question

I am not an expert, but the function of the smog pump is les pollution. So you would only pollute a little more, but I cant see how a not functioning smogpump would lead to any damage.

Re: smog pump question

I just know that my carbs run rough when that stuff is off and I haven't plugged the lines. If there are no lines sucking air into the carb, or on the other hand, theres enough air getting into the carb then there shouldn't be a problem. At one point I had everything plugged and with an old filter I was suffocating the carb of air.

Re: smog pump question

are you sure that there wasn't an internal problem in the alt that caused your belt to cook?

what condition is your alt pulley in?

make sure that those bearings are still good or you'll be in for a new belt and charging system!
