CPP rear sway bar?

I was wondering if anyone has installed the rear sway bar that CPP sells and if so does it make much difference to the handling of your truck or is it something that just is not neccessary? May as well ask if there is a better set up than what CPP has to offer.

Re: CPP rear sway bar?

I read somwhere about putting a camaro bar on the rear....late 80's model camaro maybe I can find it

Does a rear bar help as much as a front bar does ?

Re: CPP rear sway bar?

I saw a guy in the racing section that had a rear sway bar, not sure if it was cpp or not I will try to find out who it was so you can ask how much it helps out.

I did just that, thank you very much. My reason for asking this is because I purchased new trailing arms from Early Classic Enterprises after I discovered my original trailing arms were rotten. I have the sway bar from CPP but it no longer is a bolt on with these rectangular trailing arms and will have to weld brackets to them comprimising the powder coat on them, so I thought I'd ask to see if the rear sway bar made much difference to the handling and ride quality to the truck before I start grinding on my new trailing arms.

I had the rear cpp sway bar with my old control arms when I replaced the control arms with the square tubing ones the sway bar was removed and sold as it is not necessary with the new control arms...

Do the square trailing arms act differently than the stock trailing arms that make them unnecessary?

Re: CPP rear sway bar?

I think that you will find that most experts will tell you not to run a rear sway bar on trailing arms. They are designed to work best without one. Do a search on the Pro-Touring web site. Just trying to save you needless money. A good set of adjustable shocks would actually help and be money well spent.

Pardon my stupidity, but which would be better for control on the a$$-end...I am pushing over 400hp and want to make sure that the truck doesn't roll funny, or wander back and forth...Regardless of whether I am going straight line or around curves...

Large sway bar on the front, 4-6 drop... good shocks all around. Re-do all the suspension... youll be great'. My BB should be slightly over 1000HP, Im not too worried.

Couldn't disagree more. Here is where the 4/6 drop takes you. Inside rear contact is minimal while right front is approaching it's travel limit. The left front is near the top of it's travel and is also losing grip. The truck is in severe understeer. The suspension is not controlling weight transfer as it should.

Now factor in the weight of a big block with just a little throttle or a bump in the track and that truck is leaving the course at the apex of the turn! A sway bar at the rear will begin to equalize the rear load, reduce bump steer and help the front bar control compression of the suspension on the right front.

In my opinion after having them in there for almost two years the rear is definetly alot stiffer on the side to side movement. It feels very nice and tight. Those one piece square tubing from Early classics have urethane bushings and are a one piece so there is no flexing vs the stock ones being two pieces..

What part number did you get on the headers? What size are the primaries?
