Angry Repop Short Bed Sides - Crap!!!

Okay Guys,
Just to start a discussion. Got repop bedsides to build my shortbox. They are crap, just enough little things that are wrong with them. Bought them from a "National" Chevy truck parts supplier. I know they don't make them. But they sell the crap, and so do others. I have them in final prime ready to block, and now I found another item that needs to be fixed.
Any comments to support?
I'm sick of all the foreign junk out there......

I'd like to see some pics and more details on exactly what the problems are. Fit, finish, stamping, proportions? All of the above?

x 2. I have always heard that the repop SWB bedsides were stellar, even though they are foreign made.

Nope...he meant repop and I'll agree. Asian copies are no match for the quality found in American originals.

It's just a fact of life. American companies are passing off stuff as "quality' that our grandpas would have been some kinda irate over. We've become accustomed to inferior as our only option.

Re: Repop Short Bed Sides - Crap!!!

This isn`t the first thread discussing this very subject. I`m new to this site, but that Blazer in my avatar was mine back when I was 19, I`m 35 now, and the GMC was bought new in `71 by my Grandfather. My Dad told me a story about my Grandfather #itching about how flimsy the `71`s sheet metal was compared to His `57 GMC`s that it replaced. I have no plans of buying reproduction parts, I`m almost addicted to the classified section of this site because of all the guys out there parting out old parts that were MADE IN AMERICA BY AMERICANS.

Re: Repop Short Bed Sides - Crap!!!

I used Goodmark metal fror my Bedsides and front bed panel. I thought goodmark were american made. but found a stickers on each piece thats says made in Taiwan. It wasn't that surprising. I thought the pieces were in very good shape. no major things to fix. no dents. I did have a little trouble bolting the bedside to the front panel, but only on the left side. I even cut my longbed floor to a short and the fenders still bolt on with no problems. I epoxy primmed them and blocked them out, like you would any other panel. to tell the truth they saved me a lot of work and probably money, over a good used set. I would use them again.

Mrhino, looks good. How did the sheetmetal thickness compare to original on your set?

Re: Repop Short Bed Sides - Crap!!!

I got a bedside patch that looks great, I am installing in January but it looks true. I also got inner and outer passenger side rockers, cab corners, and door bottom replacements.

The driver side door patch looks like garbage and I am returning it but everything else I got is great! The door patch is all wrinkly and looks horrible. I think these tiawaneese productions are really hit and miss.

Re: Repop Short Bed Sides - Crap!!!

I've been wanting to order some new sides myself and not made up my mind to buy goodmark or dynacorn probably the same either way. Have read good and bad stories about all after market sheetmetal.

Re: Repop Short Bed Sides - Crap!!!

I bought them from Brothers. I can't imagine too many sets of dies to stamp these things out. Imagine the size of the press, and the tooling for the dies. So, my guess is there is one company stamping out the pieces and selling to the retailers.
First the tabs that are spot welded on the inside of the box on the rear corner; had to cut them off, and weld them back lower, so they were flush against the floor.
Now, trying to bolt the tail / backup lights in. You know what? The holes are too low, so the backup slides behind the divider bar. And... the tabs that the lens housing sits against are too shallow. So.... the lights will sit out a good 1/8 inch out from where they should be.
No problem, I love spending $ a grand for two bed sides, cutting this out adjusting and making it fit as it should.
Yes I am anal about the fitment. After the time I have invested you can't stop and half ass the little details.
First mistake I made was buying the longbed when I truely wanted a short. I was new to the 67 - 72's and did not know good shortbeds where made of unobtainium.... : )
Pictures, I can take them. But everything appears normal when you look at it, just watch out when you try to assemble.

Oh, I forgot. Mine had the same R-DOT Made in Taiwan stickers on them as well....
They came in a plain big brown cardboard box.
