4/6 or 5/7 kit??
wondering whats the best kit to go with.
originally i was thinking 4/6. price difference is looking 200ish more for the 5/7 looking for opinions here. is it worth buying the 4/6 now. or should i wait and get the 5/7 when i have the extra money? thanks for any info. |

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
That's Easy - purchase the drop kit that you want regardless of the price or you will not be happy in the end. If a brand new kit is too expensive, try searching for something used and if you buy new, make sure you do some comparisons between vendors, look for sales or special offers to maximize your purchase.

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
What year truck? (Edit: I type too slow^^^)
The 5/7 works (with a c-notch) on most all trucks,... except the '99-'06 trucks. They are almost too low for practical street driven trucks.

In my mind, the lower the better as long as its functional. If that's the same way you are thinking, definitely save the money and buy the 5/7 kit.

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
I am beyond happy with the 4.5/6 ECE drop on my 69.
Its low without being un driveable. I haven't had a single bump/rub issue in the rear with a un notched frame. I did scrub the front tires on the inner fenders going down a couple nasty big rolling bumps on the freeway. I was motoring pretty good (80++) so that may have been a factor...lol

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
thanks for reply guys.
trucks an 85 gmc sierra classic. was navy blue. now a baby blueish color....attempted some bodywork and sprayed truck. was originally planning on bodywork, then primer, sand and hot rod flatz... i like the flat look. but since i only have 1 truck and its my daily, and i picked the wrong time of year to do this, i rushed thu it and shot it with rusto... anyway, getting new tires put on tomorrow. bfg 275 60 and 55 60... and now i want to get a kit to lower truck i had a couple lowered trucks and have lowered every car ive had. been driving high, way too long. but money went into fixing needed things first. cpp kit 4/6 = 480 shipped to jersey. 5/7 is 660. the 4/6 gives me coils, spindles, flip kit and bolt in notch 5/7 give same with shackles, and shocks all round. i have 600. like the cheaper option, dollar wise. but rather do it once and right as opposed to doing some now and some later. and then i have to find a local in jersey that might wanna help me install parts. got a price of 500 for install.... |

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
McGaughys makes a 4.5"/6" kit for your truck. I really like the stance of their drop.

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
Depending on which wheels you have,... a 255/60-15 up front might rub with a 5/7 drop.
I would do a 4/6. Skip the c-notch (for now),... and spend that money on QUALITY drop shocks. If you want to go lower,... later,... you can trim 1/2 coil up front and add the shackles and c-notch. I like Belltech, Western Chassis, or McGaughy for 73-87 trucks. You're going to need to save some money for unexpected "worn" front end components, bearings and seals(?), and repacking with grease. Also a front end alignment will be required. Save your money and do it right the first time.

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
It's a 5.5"/7.5" static drop.

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
I think DJM spindles are fine,... but there are nicer flip kits out there.
I've also had the DJM "Toxic Shocks". In my opinion,... they rode terrible. I like Belltech shocks, KYB, or Doetsch Shocks. Look around at Summit Racing.

Re: 4/6 or 5/7 kit??
You need to measure the rotor width.
They could have either the 1" (light duty) or the 1.25" wide rotors.
