Re: Preditor Carb??

I used to run one on a sand dragster. It worked great.I don't think it would be a good street carb.I don't think it has idle circuits.

Re: Preditor Carb??

If you can still get them you could buy a kit to convert it to a street carb?[coffe can?] I had a friend that had two on a tunnel rammed small block. They are [were] different to say the least. I don't know if he ever got it to run right be he changed so much stuff at one time to know what worked and what did'nt. Jim

Re: Preditor Carb??

I don't know if they are still being made, but they did have them with idle circuts for street use. A buddy of mine used to run one on his mud race truck, and loved it.

Re: Preditor Carb??

You absolutely do not want one for the street. Most of a applications where you here guys say they did alright is with balls out throttle. There is an idle circuit which helps the thing "idle". I believe it's the off idle and cruise throttle that will kill you. I just don't believe they have any real effective way of metering fuel down low in the R's.

I always tell folks that if they were an effective all round carb they would still be being produced or someone would have bought the rights like Edelbrock did to Carter. Neither is the case.

Absolutely no choke provision.

Re: Preditor Carb??

I had a predator on my circle track car back in the 90's. It has a variable venturi which allows you to shove massive amounts a gas into your engine. Horrible fuel economy. Its only good for racing IMO.

Re: Preditor Carb??

I had one on a 68 Cutlass years ago, as stated, not very street friendly at all, however if your going from light to light, it will drain your tank and feed a huge ( BB) motor with plenty of fuel.

Holley has this weird concept......if it aint broke......

Holley has been around since 1903 and it appears they know what they are doing. Also appears that they know how to make a damn good-looking carb in the process!

Re: Preditor Carb??

bignbad - my dad ran a predator carb on his 427 nickel block he had around 13.1 compression on the motor with a 930 cfm predator 1 barrel carb and he said he had to adjust the carbs air and fuel mixture 3 times a day in the morning going to work in the afternoon and at night when he went home in the evening if you didnt adust it properly it wouldnt run right but he also ran alcohol in his motor, or half and half 93 octane with aviation fuel, but he said once you got it adjusted right it ran like a strippid a## ape! hope this helps and these carb are very simple to work on ill send you a picture some time of it.
