New to forum
New to the forum thought Id say hello.
I have a 78 short bed C 10. It has been my daily until the old motor gave out and threw a rod on my way back to Austin from Waco. Any one from the Austin Tx area know of some good shops. Im planing on picking up a long block and hopefully a 700r tranny this week. |

While I'm drying out, I echo Manimal's welcome to the Board. I'm rather fond of 78 C-10's myself. Wealth of knowledge here, so take advantage of it. Glad to have you on board.

Re: New to forum
You might try Austin quality engine- on north lamar- 836-9222, they have different levels of quality. long block I got had crappy heads but the block was good
Or, Austin Performance- 10716 North lamar- 832-5566, I always had good success there. Welcome.

Re: New to forum
Welcome. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I have a block here that may help you out from a 74 SWB (came out of jonboys truck). The engine needs to be resealed but runs excellent and ran great prior to removal for a TBI swap. I still have it attached to a Turbo350 transmission. PM me if you are interested and we can meet up. I am in Cedar Park.

Re: New to forum
Thank you for the offer but I just lined up a long block this morning. Now just trying to find a 700r tranny. A guy in SA said he would rebuild me one and throw in the torque converter, TV cable, and wiring kit for the lock up for 1250. seems like a decent deal to me but since I have alittle time to play with figured Id shop around, any ideas from the TX guys would be appreciated

Re: New to forum
That seems a little high. You are almost into Gearstar/Bowtie Overdrives/Phoenix price point there. There is an Eagle Transmission shop in Arlington that will do a 700R4 for $495, I would try to find a similar shop locally. Check CL, too. Also, you will need to shorten the driveshaft a little bit, and most likely move the crossmember cack just a little too. That is what I am having to do.
Check out this TCC kit. It's a little cheaper than the Painless kit, and has the brake switch already, too. http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...php?ITEMID=332
