Heater question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm flushing out my my 65 radiator and don't know where the heater control is to flush out the heater core as well.
Anybody know where the heater temperature control is or does it have one?
All I see is a pull knob that says air and it turns three clicks, I'm assuming that's the fan control and vent?

The heater core was disconnected and the lines looped back to the motor by the PO because the core was leaking. I hooked the lines back up and hope to use some bars leak or something to fix the core... does that ever work?

If the heater core is original , I doubt anything is going to stop the leak on a 45 yrs. old heater core . They aren't that expensive nor difficult to change out . LMC has them in the $ 70 - $ 80 range ( depending on which type your truck has ) . I bought mine many years ago through Autozone . They have them listed on their website for $ 31.99 !

I just called Autozone, 33 bucks.. can't beat it
It's amazing the stuff I've been able to get for the truck at autozone and kragens or whoever they are now

turn for fan and pull for heat.

StevieC, Did you buy the core from AZ? I only see 1 on the website. Is it the smaller of the 2 sizes of core? I have the delux heater with 3 levers on the dash.

63 & 64 Bowties, is the turn for fan and pull for heat heater the standard version?

Pull for heat. The further you pull the further the valve opens.

Where can a replacement cable be purchased? Mine pulls very hard but it works. Also what holds the lever open for the defrost/heat selector?

LMC sells the cables, if you pull yours out and soak it down with PB blaster or wd 40 leave it hang in your garage for a couple of days it will loosen up, and when installing don`t tighten down on the clamps too tight.
