Re: Long tube headers for small block - 55 3100

I'm interested in this too. Is there a long tube set available that will fit a slightly lowered '55-'59? My cab steps are about 7" off the ground.

Thanks,
Bob

I was informed by a forum member that 55-57 chevy passenger car long tubes have worked for some of the truck applications.....

Thanks Vjjack04. I bought a set at a local swap meet ($40) that were supposed to be for a '55 truck. They look exactly like the ones on my '55 sedan. I think they would have worked if I had retained the stock truck height. They're too long now that the truck is lower. If I don't hear more on this thread I may just have to go to a pair of block-huggers.

I just viewed the Skip White web site and they have a set of stainless block huggers available. I'd be interested in hearing from folks who've used them.

Here's a link to the ad: http://www.skipwhiteperformance.com/...?Item=8808-HDR. They show a great view of the flange mating surface, but not the welds that show just below the valve cover. I'd be interested in seeing that, if for no other reason than the Chinese block huggers I have seen have really ugly welds. The price is great at $164.95, but the flanges are plated steel, which will rust.

looks like the same ones i got from iowa, one had welds burnt through the tubing leaving pinholes and a few months later i tried to bolt them on and they hugged the block so tight they won't bolt up.

Re: Long tube headers for small block - 55 3100

I'm running hooker super comp headers on my 59 and they fit around the stock steering perfectly. The part number is 2819-1HKR. They are pretty expensive from most places, but I stumbled across a set on the Holley ebay store as scratch and dent and they were 80% off! You might check their site from time to time. http://stores.ebay.com/holleyperformance
