The 69'er - 1969 Chevy C/20 Custom Camper
Saw this 69 Chevy C-20 on Craigslist a couple weeks ago and made a marathon Hartford, Conn to Sacramento and back in a little over 24 hours flight out there yesterday to check it out (boarding passes on the bottom). Having it transported back to Conn. next week.
Don't plan on doing much to it. Maybe get rid on the fiberglass tonneau cover and go back to the white steelies w/dogdish hubcaps. You guys out west and down south don't realize how lucky you are to have so many rust free vehicles to choose from. More pics when she comes back to her new home. I can't believe I didn't take any pics of the interior...

Absolutely gorgeous! Doesnt get much better than that. Obviously worth the extra $2G in travel/shipping expenses.

Congratulations on your new truck! Tastefully mild C/20s like that are one of my favorite 67-72s. That thing would look right at home hauling a Chevy drag car to the track. Those wheels look fantastic IMO. They look like the Ones Alcoa screwed up and stopped making.

Looks like a nice truck! You should be able to recoup some of the shipping/travel expenses selling those Alcoas to someone looking for them.

Yeah,I've always been a steelie fan too. But,I also like choice few custom wheels. I usually end up with a set of each for variety.
Even if you wanted to drive cross country in the dead of winter (still fun,but nothing like spring through fall) and it cost less,it usually comes down to time vs money. I've done the fly'n'drive a good bit but that was either when I didn't have to work so much to pay bills (younger days) or when I had workers to keep my business moving while I was away.But,even then it only made sense because I was able to buy trucks,fuel,and lodging cheap enough to be worthwhile.

You will be a lot happier with a rust free truck. The time/money spent taking a trip out here and having it shipped back is far, far less than you would end up paying to restore a rust bucket.

I did the exact same thing when I bought a car in Conn. It was kind of fun. I love long road trips, but I wasnt going to drive a car I wasnt sure about mechanically that far in the winter.

Beautiful truck Joe! And I totally agree with your ideas about steelies with dog dishes and ditching the tonneau.
I found mine in Boise Idaho. Being that it was late in the summer and the truck was supposed to be mechanically sound, my wife and I decided we were up for the adventure. We flew out there and drove it home via Yellowstone, Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc. The truck ran beautifully and we had a fantastic adventure. It was so good, we may do it again next year, if we find something really nice, this time in the southwest. Best of luck with your truck Joe. Maybe I'll see you in some of the regional shows... |
