Disk brake ???
I got disk brakes for my 67 from a junk yard last year. I went to the part store to get new rotors and there is no listing for a 1967-1972 6 lug disk
can someone tell me what year has 6 lug disk. I found them at LMC but shiping is half the price of the rotors. Thanks Lee |

Re: Disk brake ???
No factory 6-lug disc rotors.
They are all after market. Throw away your LMC catelog. They are good for pictures. That's about it. There are better companies to buy parts from. CPP, ECE, POL, GMC Pauls, etc. all sell 6-lug "aftermarket" rotors for your front suspension. What year truck did you get your parts from?

Care to explain. That's a pretty broad statement for all parts? Suspension parts? Sheetmetal? What? I personally won't buy from LMC. But suspension stuff,.... from say,... ECE doesn't come from Taiwan.

Re: Disk brake ???
I got some control arm bumpers from GMC pauls Made in India with LMC part #'s on them. I got 6 Lug rotors from CPP made in China. I got brake hoses from POL made in China along with some front drop springs that the paint was terrible on. I got some patch panels from ECE that were counterpart parts which are made in Taiwan and the labels were half peeled off to help disguise them. The good quality parts that you do get from them can be more than likely bought at any auto parts store for about the same if not less price with no shipping charge. No offense thats just the experience I have had with aftermarket parts.

Re: Disk brake ???
jakeblues652,... here's your personalized answer in another members thread.
(Also,... this question is answered almost every day here on this board) All 6-lug "aftermarket" rotors are copies of the 71-87 5-lug (1.25" wide) rotor that has been cast as a blank rotor and then drilled 6-lug. Any parts store 71-87 caliper will work as long as it's for the HD rotors. (not the light duty 1" rotors) Any 73-87 brake pad will work. 71-72 rubber hoses will work. 65-70 "conversion" rubber hoses will work. The spindle has to be the oem HD 71-87 spindle. Or any aftermarket standard or drop spindle for 1.25" wide rotors. I hope this helps,...

and MY "personalized" answer is right along the lines of what angelo first asked. if they did not make rotors for these years trucks what else will he use but rotors from another model/year. not trying to start anything, but common sense man. because my "personalized" answer probably helped angelo. the quote part above was uncalled for.

They did not make a 67-72 6-lug rotor. They also didn't make a 73-87 6-lug rotor. SO,... the aftermarket came up with a solution. Use,... 71-72 spindles. Or use 73-87 spindles, (HD version only). Bolt on their "new" aftermarket 6-lug rotors and be done. All other parts can be purchased locally. (this includes caliper, bearings, seals, brake pads, and hoses)

Can you post some pics of the parts you bought? They did have power brakes in 6-lug between 67-70,... but they were all drum brakes. You are also going to need to change your master cylinder and proportioning valve to make the disc brake swap work on your truck.

We have a forum policy to answer questions rather than suggest "Use the search feature" like so many forums do. Unfortunately that policy allows members to ask the same question over and over with out taking the time to "read every brake thread thats up every day. " If you want polite answers, please take the time to research the question first.

Re: Disk brake ???
Kind of back from the dead but I just did this not long ago...Easy bolt on with even easier to find parts than 71-72 K10 stuff. I converted my drum brake open knuckle Dana-44 in my 69 to disc with caliper brackets, calipers, spindles, rotors & 4x4 hubs from a donor square body. Simple bolt-on installation. The wheel bearing size changed on the inners so you can't reuse the drum brake spindles. The bolt pattern is the same though so no big deal, you have to pull them any way to install the disc brake caliper bracket.
