Finally figured out my noise

My truck has been making an intermittent noise for a long time (about three years) and despite my best efforts I couldn't ever track it down. My dad and I have been redoing the entire truck and pulled/disassembled the motor yesterday. Needless to say, we figured out where the noise was coming from. I was running a powerglide with 3.73 gears and I'm surprised the engine didn't give up long ago. Guess I just got lucky.

Thanks! Sure did make it a lot easier. I am going to use it to pull the cab, too.

hmm two experiences with that truth...

1. pulled the engine from my 86 blazer in durango to rebuild it.. 6-8 rings where broken in half and fell on the ground as we pulled the pistons.
plugs where carboned up so bad you couldnt see the electrodes.
truck never failed to start, used no oil, didnt smoke, never ran bad....

2. rebuilt that motor, broke it in on the trip to phoenix , changed oil a week later, left for durango a couple weeks later, got to flagstaff and lost oil pressure, no idea why , no leaks, oil full in truck, figured bad guage, ran across the desert all night , took a nap, truck started to knock , put 5qts oil in truck at next gas station, drove to within 20miles of durango before i stopped cause of knocking being REALLY REALLY BAD... pulled motor that weekend, #1 rod bearing paper thin,#2 on its way out, replaced crank, rod and drove back to phoenix that sunday without a problem....... (oh that trip from phoenix to durango is
7 hrs 15 mins / 455.24 miles) so that motor went 350+ miles on no oil pressure.. never did figure out where 5qrts of oil went... ??

Re: Finally figured out my noise

Nothing pulls engines like a Deere. Nice having tractors to use when yanking apart these old trucks.

I was gonna say...not wonder it sounds funny. That's called a "tractor"...not a truck.
