will a 1981 th400 4x4 trans fit in....
my friend's 1990 Chevy dually. The 1981 trans was mated to a np 208, I believe he has a np 241.
Now I talked to a guy who said the early th400 tailshaft is about 1" longer than the later model (1990) th400. He said or thinks they changed or made the tail shaft 1" longer around 1986-87. Can anyone set me straight before this project hit the wall, Happy New Year and thanks for any help. |

Is it a new body or old body style? If old body, then yes, it should work if you have a compatible cross member.
New body, I'm not too sure. Either way, expect to lengthen/shorten the drive shafts.

It'll bolt right in. 1990 was the last year of the turbo 400 in the pick-ups. The tail shaft will be correct for the 241. The shafts were the same for the 208 and the 241 as well as the adaptor.
