Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!

also i have been reading about what way the secondaries should face. on inliners.org they were saying something about how my engine would only get half the fuel it needed if it was facing a certain way. but on offy's picture they showed the carb sitting 180 from how mine is or what inliners.org said. im a little confused but heres some pics of some ideas

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!

the way the carb sits does not matter that much. there are guys on inliners that race inlines and they say its not much differance either way. i had a 250 with headers and 4 barrel on a68 chevy and ran it the normal way,ran fine. also the esiest way to do your carb linkeige is to run cable insted of hard linkedage. lokar or cable from some other car from junk yard.

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!

Decisions!! Decisions!! What's the best way to run your carb. Your last pic would work.
Hook it up like in the diagram. Hook your linkage rod up to a hole on the top part of the swivel bracket. You might need to make the hole bigger for your rod to fit into.
I put a holley 350 2 barrel on mine and faced the float towards the valve cover and installed a bellcrank like that hooked to my original linkage on my 65 230.

I would get a cable and stand off bracket off any mid seventies truck. might have to lengthen the cable at worst.

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!

Joey,
The way you mount the carb does matter some (distance from venturi to each intake valve), and for perfect balance you have it correct. If you turn it 90 degrees, cylinders 1 and 6 have slightly different distances, although it will run fine like that. On Inliners, they seem a cantakerous lot, but you can get some help--search the archives. You might also email Tom Lowe on that board directly. He is a very nice and helpful guy.
I will be following your progress, I have not tackled this issue quite yet...I've got to get my cab back on the frame first.

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!

Hi Joey mine is a 250 I don't know if that will help here but they are similar. I used the stock pull system without the bell crank parts as you will see in the pic's. The Edelbrock carb sits on the intake backwards and it seems work fine haven't had any issues with it so far. I think if you install it sideways I'd use the Lokar cable system they work slick. I put a Mercruiser boat cam in my 250 with the Edelbrock carb it's a tork monster....Vernski

Vernski, does it run well like that? All the "experts" say to have the carb turned 90 degrees to the engine.

The Clifford hot water heated intake has an open plentium and mixes the gas and air well the hot water doesn't boil the gas. I don't know if this is why it works well backwards or not I'm not an "expert".All I can tell you is that it works well with no issues that I'm aware of, experts or no experts. Would you like to come ride in it?...Vernski

I would LOVE a ride!! I've never been to Idaho, it's on my list. You bring up a good point for JOEY....intake heat is a must for a street driven 6, especially in your region; heck, even down in Texas it is needed. Don't forget to run water to that intake!

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!

Subscribed!! I have the same issues but I am trying to use a 7448 2 barrel Holley on the Offenhauser intake.
Has any body ever machined the chamber of the Offenhauser making it an open chamber like the Clifford??? Wonder what performance issues would change..

Vernski I will be up north someday for a ride!!

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!

okay guys this is what i did! i went to ACE and bought a chunk of flat bar then i went to O'reilly's and bought this throttle cable package pretty nice set up. then i used some rubberized hose clamps to hold the line on. then i made my bracket to hold the wired cable. Then i made one for the return spring. let me know what you think!

They do look sick. I'll guess I'll have to wait. Did you put the lump port things in the heads?

I was just wondering how you could spend 7000. I was thinking about getting them but I think there a lot of machine work involved. I sure you'll do fine without. I love mine.
