i want to run a 10" lift on my crew short bed with 38 15.5 20 mtz that i bought for it but skyjacker says they will clear with a 8" lift and super lift says that i need a 10". im thinking 10" might be the way to go so i need some pics thanks. and what brand do you guys think rides better i have run skyjacker in the past and the springs saged on me after a few years so im to impressed with them.

Re: how about some 81-87 10" lift pics
im sure a 10" will clear 38s and i think i could get away with a 8" its how wide my tires are there 15.5 wide with 20X10 wheels with a -25mm offset. i don't want to bash up my fenders or trim them the truck will see mostly street use and very rarely if at all see off road use.

Re: how about some 81-87 10" lift pics
heck I clear 38's with 5" of lift. I still need to do a little trimming though, only time it contacts is full lock and in a good bind.

Heres a mock up pic of my brothers truck. Its a 10" on 42s.

Re: how about some 81-87 10" lift pics
one of my old rock crawlers was a 84 k5 with a 8" and 35s on 15x10 wheels and i tore the hell out my fenders the first weekend at full flex its funny it was military green that pic brings back some memory's wish i still had it but after years of wheeling the the floor tore it self apart past repair or as much as i was going to do i still wish i would have done a body swap on it. i beat the hell out of it all weekend and still drive it home down the interstate at 80-85 miles an hour with no problems

Re: how about some 81-87 10" lift pics
I cleared 38x15.50's with a 6" lift, but had to barely trim the fenders on the back edge. Took less than an inch off the corner. An 8" lift would definitely clear them. After I put the Bushwacker Cut-out flares on it, I could probably get 38.5's under it without any more lift. Keep in mind, my truck cleared the tires easily height-wise, but the width got me. If you get a more narrow tire, like a 38x12.50, you could probably clear them with a 6" lift.

Re: how about some 81-87 10" lift pics
It also depends upon what your plans are to do with it.
If it's a mainly street driver and light trail/OR use you can probably get away with 8" but if you plan on getting in full compression or extension situations you are going to need more lift. I ran 40's on my 79 Jimmy with 6" Skyjacker and added a cut of overload rear spring piece to the spring packs with a Rancho taper shims to get another inch and then had a 3" body lift. Still had to do some minor trimming to the rear of the fron fenders.

Re: how about some 81-87 10" lift pics
That's an awesome looking Jimmy. I was planning on adding a 3" body to mine for when I finally find somewhere to wheel around my home. My truck clears the tires enough for street driving, like you said, but if you're going to flex a lot, I agree with you.

Re: how about some 81-87 10" lift pics
heres my 84 crew with 8 inches of lift and 35x14.5's on it, im sure that your 38's would clear but i think that you would have to trim the fenders a touch so that you can turn the truck imo, i would go with the 10 to be safe.

Re: how about some 81-87 10" lift pics
that truck doesn't look like it has a body lift no gap between the bed and frame. It also doesn't look like 38's they look very small. it is freakin tall though.
