HELP! Need door pictures

Ok guys im stuck........ I put my door together and here is the result. The vent window is the original part just with new rubber I installed. I know the outter scrapper is too long. Thats a start. But notice how the scaper does not touch the glass next to the vent. It looks great at the other side where it starts, and than it wanders away.

So, could someone please take a pic of this area on a driver side door?

Also the vent rubber does not contact the door. Shouldn't it?

Is the door tweaked up there?

I'm sure I am not the only one who has had this issue.

Any help would be appreciated!

I would say that the door is spread apart in that area. You don't say what year your truck is but it's a common problem with the earlier trucks. In '72 they put a screw through the door on the inside to hold them together. When you had the door apart did you notice whether the metal web in that area was cracked or broken? (It is like a metal strap that holds the inner and outer door in place)

I was thinking the same thing! Except the strap was not broke. I better take it apart again and be sure. But was the screw on the 72 going all the way through? Or did it just attach to the vent window?

I added to my last post. I have never investigated the '72 setup but I would suspect that there was a tab welded on the inside of the outer door skin that the screw went into. It's a pretty long screw.

Ditto to above posts. Mine is the same way. To make it better, I cut the rubber so it goes around the vent post. It probably lets in more water at that specific point because of the missing rubber, but helps keep water from running down the window and into the door by allowing the entire strip to sit a little closer to the window.

Great pic in the ice! Anybody have a pic of a door without this problem?

How about a detail pic of the 72 door setup with the screw?

Re: HELP! Need door pictures

A nice little bead of black silicone caulk at the vent post will seal that up nice and neat. If you can't locate black silicone, try a glass shop. They will usually have it in stock.

Re: HELP! Need door pictures

Use an automotive window sealer if you want to seal that area. You want to stay clear away from silicone. Silicone atracts moisture causing rust under it, and also gives the metal what they call Silicone invasion. Near impossible to get rid of and will always cause problems with future painting. WES

Re: HELP! Need door pictures

Well guys.... I really would like to make it look tight like the factory. I guess there aren't to many 72's on here right now where I could get a pic of how the screw attaches inside. I know im missing the dimple in my door for it, but I think I have an idea to fix it. I will investigate this weekend and report back.
