Smile Edelbrock Performer Intake?

I'am considering and Edlebrock Performer Intake and a mild Comp Cams Extreme Energy camshaft this winter to my 85 GMC which has a LE9 305ci engine.

My question regarding the Edelbrock intake manifold is will I lose and low and mid range torque by adding this manifold?

The reason I'am asking is articles in Super Chevy and Chevy Rumble magazines tested a similar intake from Weiand and showed a loss in torque on the bottom end.

My last question involves the dreaded ESC distributer should I keep it or should I get rid of it. I have a new Accel HEI which is still in the box which I purchesad from a friend of mine for $100.

Thanks Rob

Please help me out guys I'am really frying my brain on the ESC distributer question.

If it is the standard Edelbrock Performer intake, it is designed to build torque off-idle to 5500 RPM. Should be great for a street engine. If you are referring to the Performer RPM, you will probably lose a little low end. You also might check out the post in the "Engine and Drivetrain" forum re. the Comp Cams XE series.

Smile Edelbrock Performer Intake & Comp Cams XE series

Thanks for the advice on Comp Cams XE series, I don't like ticking camshafts since the one that in the truck is very quiet.

What about the Edelbrock Performer Camshafts?

Any advice on camshafts or the ESC distributer is appeciated.

Thanks Rob

The Edelbrock Cam would be a great choice with the intake. They are designed to work together in that off-idle window. If I remember right, the Performer combo (cam, intake, carb heads) on a 350 produced about 310 hp. Considering you have a 305, and I assume you will be using the stock heads, the Performer Cam would be good. If you are looking to save some dough, Summit has a cam that is the exact same grind as the Edelbrock.

Sorry, I dont have any experience with ESC, you might post a thread about it in the "Engine and Drivetrain" forum.

peace, Derek

When I replaces the stock manifold and stock q-jet with the edelbrock performer intake and edelbrock q-jet carb, I didnt notice much of a performance change at all.

From what ive heard, the edelbrock cams are very old technology as opposed to the comp cams or crane cams. Id stick with a cam other than Edelbrock. But their intakes are top notch.

Cool

the biggest thing is to make sure that the rpm band of the cam is the same or really close the the rpm band of the intake. this insures that both are working together. Even if you dont see big performance gains atleast your losing some weight of a cast iron intake.
