Check out what my buddy has in his garage!

I have know him for abot ten years and he had the 70 Challenger T/A already torn apart. It was already like that for 10+ years at that time. The Challenger has a non numbers matching 383 and a 727 auto. It was originally plum crazy purple. It was not running when he bought it. It is VERY solid, needing only minor dent massage and a paint job (!) i think he said he gave $2k for it (!)

He has pulled the drivetrain and cleaned and painted the engine compartment...and that is how it sits today... I guess it is good that it is at least inside.

Re: Check out what my buddy has in his garage!

It gets better! He said that a few years after buying the Challenger, he came across this 67 Malibu 2 dr. Not quite as desireable as the Challenger, but still a damn solid car that I would love to have. It has the original numbers matching 327 275 hp engine. It was originally a 3 on the tree, he swapped it to a 4 on the floor. It originally has a bench seat and he swapped a buddy with a 67 El Camino for his buckets. This car is also VERY solid, and only needs the panel between the trunk and rear window welded in. THe original had rusted through. Luckily, the trunk did not suffer any from the leakage as it was cauht early. I never did understand why he stripped it all the way down to the shell on the frame... I think he said the engine was pulled due to oil consumption. It has been bored and new pistons purchased, crank turned and heads rebuilt. It is in a palstic bag under the shelf.

Re: Check out what my buddy has in his garage!

I have a 72 swb stepside that I recently dropped a 355 and 700r4 into. It needs a little body work, mostly just inner and outer rockers, and paint. I am thinking of trying to get him to swap the Malibu for my 72.

Through the years, he has picked up TWO 67 SS hoods, two extra doors and an extra set of fenders. It was originally gold with a black interior. There is no rust ANYWHERE on his car now!

Re: Check out what my buddy has in his garage!

Still more! I used to work with him, and came across and ad in the paper for a 70 Dodge Dart Swinger 2 dr, orange with a 318/ 904 auto for $1500. We went and looked at it together and I talkied myself out of it, didn't have the money or a good place to work on it at the time (still don't really). He decided to buy it. I guess I shamed him into NOT teariing this one apart. He has rebuilt the 2 barrel carb (tried to talk him into a 4 barrel swap to no avail), replaced the water pump and had the radiator cleaned out, but it has kind of stalled as well. It still need brakes and I think he said the spider gears were chewed up in the 7 1/4" (or whatever size it is) rear axle. He bought an 8 3/4" that will bolt in and I have tried to talk him into a later model volare disc swap, but it still sits...

Re: Check out what my buddy has in his garage!

The P.O. was the original owner. The car was garaged until a year before it was sold. He said he bought a boat and pushed the Dart into the driveway to make room for the boat. Luckily, he decided to part with it instead of letting it rot away. The Dart has original paint except for the pass side fender. It originally had a vinyl top, which was pulled off and the metal POR'd, luckily there was no rust yet. Personally, I would buy oe of the stroker kits I have seen for the 318, and maybe swap it to a 4 speed or an aftermarket 5 speed

Re: Check out what my buddy has in his garage!

I told him I would fill in the roof/ quater panel mating seam and leave the top like it is, POR. I recently found a et of 14" slot mags for $100 that I let him know about. They are a smaller pattern than the 8 3/4" rear, though.

Re: Check out what my buddy has in his garage!

He also has an early 70's Honda trail 90 that he let me borrow to teach my wife to ride. I got running for hm and cleaned up the chrome. He also has a couple of old wet Coke boxes that he hasn't touched in years. He also has a 70's Coke box that we keep beer in. I think it is a 35 cent machine. It has the vertical door on the left side.

None of this stuff is for sale. I have tried.

Re: Check out what my buddy has in his garage!

I have tried to talk him into at leat fixing the brakes that are on the Dart now and taking it to some cruise ins, but he seems like the kind of guy who thinks that a car has to be perfect in order to show it off. He doesn't get that more and more people like to see "SURVIVORS".

I've got one of the Honda Trailbikes sitting in the shed out at the farm.

Quite the stash.

It is a 73. I wa swith him when he bought it at a yard sale about 8 yrs ago. It was in a shed that got flooded, the engine was locked up and they couldn't find the title. I believe it has around 1k miles on it. He got it for $300, which at the time I thought was a little high. We got the engine broke loose and had to replace the coil so it would fire. I cleaned all the surface rust that has accumulated. it took all day to clean the wheels. It needs a new exhaust pipe (rust).

I have one I picked up a yellow one while back on C-List for $100. It has a title, but was missing the exhaust, and I had to give $100 for a good exhaust. I also had to put new brake shoes on the back, they were suck. It is not getting fire either, and I haven't had time to work on it. I got it for the wife to ride.
I also have a 66 or 67 yellow Trail 90 that was my uncles (title still in his name). It has the knee action forks on front. It is rougher and needs a total restoration, but is complete.
