Does anyone own a truck with a 5-speed NV4500?

I am thinking about going to this transmission.
I would like to know if you use the first gear to take off or is it so low that you skip it like you would on the sm465.

Here is the gear ratio info I have found:
SM465 1st=6.65 2nd=3.58 3rd=1.70 4th=1.00
NV4500 1st=5.61 2nd=3.04 3rd=1.67 4th=1.00 5th=0.74

I would like to change my rear end. So if I got the NV4500 and changed the rear end, what do you guys think I should get for the rear end? The 1st gear is low in the NV4500, but I want to use it, I dont want to skip it like the 465. What do you guys think about this whole thing?
