whats the best solution

Okay I need to know the most economic way to go about installing disc brakes. Heres my issue, theres not much to choose from for 6 lug wheels. So I want to change to 5 lug front and rear dics front and drum rear just to save cost any thoughts?

get a 76 chevy parts truck, take the entire front cross member and it will bolt into your truck, only a couple holes to drill; the rear is simply replacing the axels and drums from the 76 into your rearend; you'll need the booster and master from the 76 as well

I have to ask what is economical to you? If time is important, buy a whole kit and install it; get everything. If dollars are more important, you can piece stuff together and make 50 trips to the hardware and parts stores and take weeks or months to complete the conversion.

I'm mentioning this out of experience with my three trucks. I try to shoot for somewhere in the middle and hope the stuff comes together well.

If you're okay with a stock ride height, using the front suspension and rear differential from a '71-'87 pickup or Suburban is the most economical way to go. Finding a complete parts truck will ensure that you have just about everything you need for a conversion. Yes you will likely need to make a few trips to the parts store, but the way I look at it, that's just a part of building these trucks.

I have the brackets you will need for the power steering, and power brakes.

so if i went and got the rear axles and drums i can simply pull out my 8lug axles and drums and simply install the 5 lug axles with out a problem is this possible what are the up and downs on this if this work im on my way to my local junkyard

No, I'm afraid that isn't going to work. There's no easy or cheap way to convert a full floating axle from 8 x 6.5 to a 5x5 bolt pattern. You will have to change the entire rear differential to make that happen. That is unless you have lots of $$ to spend on some aftermarket aluminum hubs.

kinda thought the same thing also it just seemed to good to be true just isnt possible to do
