Who's got the Cragar five spokes?

I see that not too many people still use the old cragar SS wheels. They were all over the place in the seventies. Anyone got pics of them on our trucks? Let's see 'em! Anyone got their old ones for sale? Who carries them now?

Re: Who's got the Cragar five spokes?

I buy them through Summit.

Funny story about that. Back in like 98 I called Summit to order a set. This was before internet when you had to talk to someone on the phone to order. I told him what I wanted and he tried twice to talk me out of them. He kept saying they were old style and no one ran them anymore.

Anyway, here's two trucks I've built with them. I finished the orange truck back in 98 and the green one was in about 2003 or so.

Thanks, the SS will never be topped. The fact that there arent many around anymore appeals to me even more. I love that '68! I like the look with no rear bumper, too.

Re: Who's got the Cragar five spokes?

i dont know if they've gotten better over the years but back in the 60's-70's they had about the crappiest chrome on the market. would look real good for 3-6months then the chrome would just bubble and peel.dealers had a hard time sellin them when compared to the great quality of lots of other manufactureers

Re: Who's got the Cragar five spokes?

Yeah, I was always afraid to run them for that reason. Part of the problem is they are part steel and part alloy. That's just asking for electrolysis. I might consider them for a truck that stays dry. Around here no chrome steel wheels hold up.

I got them on my 72 and also had a set on a truck I just sold. I did not have a problem with rust.

Best lookin' wheels ever made!

Never had a set of brand new Cragars, but you used to be able to find em used all over. That's probably not the case today.

Re: Who's got the Cragar five spokes?

I was a kid & I saw a set that the rim itself was chrome & the 5 spoke center part was gold! It looked amazing. The guy who owned the 73 Camaro they were on said he ordered them that way back in the day. Wish I could find me a set...

Thanks for the pics kevs, but those top two trucks arent them. Decent looking though, but alot more reveal thru the spokes than the SS. Yeah, I guess they are, its just the bigger wheel that threw me off.

Re: Who's got the Cragar five spokes?

Nice trucks! I have always liked cragars, wheel diameters don't fit into my current build style, but I still like them. If I ever decide to run 15's cragars would be my first choice.

Ok, that was just downright mean. Seriously, absolutely awesome truck! My dad had a '61 G that was almost that same color(about 1984, when I was driving his '70 c10 400/400 with the alum slots, dont ya just love the old days?). LOVE IT!
