Lost oil pressure!

I was getting my truck ready last weekend to drive to work on monday and doing some repairs/cleaning. I removed the AC compressor which was bad and changed to a brand new water pump. I removed all the ac brackets as well. The temp gauge is busted and most of the other gauges are off, but now my truck starts and idles nice but has no oil pressure. I changed the oil about 2 weeks ago and checked it its nice and full but theres still no pressure. I can get on the free way and the needle just bounces between 0-20. Do you think somethings wrong or the gauge is bad? Any signs to look for?

Re: Lost oil pressure!

For a quick check, install a mechanical gauge. You don't have to make this a permanent install, just attach the fitting to the back of the block where the sender is. Most likely the sender is faulty. What type of engine/year?

If you drove it on the freeway with no oil pressure, it wouldn't still be running.

Re: Lost oil pressure!

So, I should probably get around to replacing the gauges then. I have driven it since sunday on the freeway everyday between 30 and 50 miles round trip. It still starts and idles nice but the gauge reading freaks me out. Stock 70 350 btw. Thanks for the help. If anyone else has any suggestions let me know

Re: Lost oil pressure!

If you really had no oil pressure at idle, it wouldnt take long for the top end to start chattering!
And I agree that it wouldnt have lasted on the highway

Re: Lost oil pressure!

i'd go to local autoparts and see if they have a cheap mechanical gauge and just disconnect the original and hookup the new one to see if original gauge went bad

Re: Lost oil pressure!

Maybe a line got kinked when you were working on it? I know it's not really near where you were working on, but it's just kinda weird for it to stop working all of a sudden.
