'68 cab on a '67?
is this possible from the factory, if it got late in the '67 year, because as far as i know, the cab is original, and the VIN says its a '68 and the title says its a '67.

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
well jake when i look at a truck from a far and it looks like a 67 heres what i look for to tell me what it is
the fire wall dash fenders from the inside to see if i can see body work where the marker lights are and trim holes the rear window when i see a truck like yours i seen that it had 68 fenders and 68 cab that told me it was a 68 |

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
Jake...a couple things to add to what Rick said above...try to find the partial VIN number stamped on the top frame rail driver side...could be just in front of the cab mount or out towards the engine...and see if it matches the VIN on the SPID and driver side door pillar..
other things...does the cab have a big back window (it was an option only in 67, std in 68), side markers on the fenders and bed

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
if the VIN plate is original, then why are you questioning it? That is the trucks's identity.
Are you willing to post the VIN for us to decode? |

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
i decoded it earlier. everything is right except the year on it. im just curious to why the vin says 68 and the titale says 67. maybe its some stupid thing that was done wrong back then, but we may never know, right?
and if it matters, the cab DOES NOT have the small key hole.

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
thn it's a 68.. right? Whats the last 6 on the VIN? I could see if it is a 100200 then it would have been built and even sold in early 67, and a dumb @ss dealer/DMV worker could have done it up wrong and it stuck... or maybe it was from a state where titles weren't needed after 10 years or whatever, and going by some old guy's memory...
but what the VIN says, assuming the VIN is real and not scabbed in by some PO,but the vin is the ID. |

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
Does it have a '67 dash? It probably doesn't. It sounds like it's a '68 that's incorrectly titled as a '67. Or,it has had some swapping around. Do the numbers on the frame match the body and does the frame have a dimple behind the steering box? Does it have power steering??

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
I think its a screw up on the part of the dmv. My 68 that i had 7 years ago was the same way, the title said 67 but it was definately a 68. fenders, dash, markers, big window. no doubt and it was a survivor, and an extremely awful lime/babydookie green. every part, inside cab, fenders, bed and all. We named it trugly.

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
Sounds like a 68 to me. I can't imagine someone changing the box and fenders to have side markers. Usually people are filling them in. I would double check all your numbers. VIN, glovebox, frame and title. The dimple would be where the steering box is bolted to the frame. Is it flat?

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
And a '67,originally,would have a ram-assist type of power steering...nothing like '68-up. does this truck have the SPID?

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
just from your video your truck is a 68 looking at the ignition switch hole. 67 had a smaller bezel and therefor a smaller hole. Also if it has a pedal for the e brake it would be a 68, 67 used a pull handle mounted under the steering column.

yes early 68 had pull handles but mid to late 68 had pedals according to the facterey build sheets and specs I saw from the Kansas City MO plant.

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
I think you have a body swap truck. What letter does the vin plate start with? If its a C your truck has a 2wd body on a 4x4 frame

My 67 has the dimple behind the steering gear box, but it was a c20. It had power steering too but that could have been put on by a po.

I didn't know it was a 4wd we were talking about. This could explain something.

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
it is 4 wheel drive, and the VIN agrees, and the spid is long gone. it has sm420. hand brake type e-brake. will check on the dimples and such when the weather gets a little nicer. we got about 8 inches of powder last night.

Re: '68 cab on a '67?
Well the 68 sub I had had one and I have personaly seen six more trucks with them that a buddy has bought and sold over the years. I know my 67 swb is a pull handle and i have seen early 68's with pull handles. My 69 4x4 is pedal both my 70 and the 72 are all pedals. but the truck in question is a 68from all i have seen probably retitled due to no title or something like that!
