Its a Nissan; But this is my home: z24 8 spark Power loss & engine shut off
I took a short trip yesterday in my 1984 nissan with a z24 8 plug engine to get some sand for my 70 chev.
what i noticed early in the trip: slight lurching minor flickering of the dash lights reluctance to reach freeway speeds what i noticed on the return trip: extreme bogging down. inability to make it up any hill without excessive clutch engage/disengage. simultaneous headlight/dash/engine shutdown (everything but breaks was powerless) key in start position after pulling over on shutdown; magically power came back within 1-3mins i started it drove about 100yds and complete shutdown again. once again magically power returned after about 3-5 mins engine was bogging down more than ever what i have done: replaced the battery cleaned all terminals cleaned all wires any guesses would be much appreciated. i talked to a auto electric guy today and he said to check out my fuses. anyone have any other guesses? |

Sounds more like an overheated Circuit breaker that is re-setting itself to me... But I wouldn't have a clue where. LockDoc

Sounds like a bad ground. I had a similiar prob on a 1990 chevy blazer. was a loose ground under the dash. Check all your grounds.

I ran into something similar although yours sounds like it may be a combination of a few things.
First, try replacing the ICM (Ignition Control Module) in the distributor. The one for my 91 burb when I had it was cheap (around $10) but I am not sure of pricing for your Nissan. When mine went bad, it would work fine, then slowly lose power until the engine just died. Once it cooled off enough, it would allow it to start, drive for a mile or two then cut back and die again. I ran it for a bit after I got the part until it died, then popped off the distributor and there was a little smoke coming off mine so it was definitely overheating. This may be just the first step but definitely worth looking into.

could driving on a plugged fuel filter for nearly 30 mins over load one of the systems or cause shutdown somehow?
