1971 swb rs/ss

I picked up a longbed that was cut down to a shortbed last weekend. It's not the prettiest of projects, but it's a great driver for now until I finish my '61.

I've always wanted a camaro or a vet in this dark olive green color, but will always prefer these trucks over a car as a toy. So the idea is to build a pro-touring street truck with a static drop from Nate.

Re: 1971 swb rs/ss

Had a new windshield installed yesterday. If I made sure I had a Precision brand gasket Monday morning, it would have saved me a ton of time this week!!

I stopped off to see "Krazy" Ray and Joe yesterday afternoon. They've got a ton of stuff out in Orangevale - see Parts section.

Spoke to Porterbuilt this morning and should be ordering the rear kit this afternoon...

Re: 1971 swb rs/ss

Did some hillbilly paint/ body work.

This is only a temporary bed (missing wood floor) until I get the Porterbuilt Stage 2 kit installed and exhaust completed.

An attempt to not drive down property values too bad on my Ct. (as the most-hated neighbor) and reduce the "profiling" by Folsom's finest.

I like the project, and not only am I getting some arched eyebrows from the neighbors, the spousal unit is not real happy about it either. So I can sympathize with ya.

I like your project!

Any pics of the frame welds and such? I'm sure you checked it out and it was acceptable to you but I'd like to see anyway.

It was done with a step cut and plated on the inside. The PO has done a dozen or so of these trucks. No pics yet, but I'm boxing it in 4 different spots to stiffen up the frame to go along with the pro-touring theme. So stay tuned..

Can you post a link for the windshield gasket? Do they have one with the chrome trim?

There's the standard and then the custom that has a slot in the center for the chrome trim. I'll get a picture of the windshield trim early next week for you.

Looks like a fun project. I love the pro touring idea! These trucks just look right with the big wheels and wide tires under the rear!

Re: 1971 swb rs/ss

Got my new (used) bed and tailgate back from the blasters early last week. Both were taken down to bare metal and then sprayed with an epoxy primer. Installed the new grille and grille insert.

My wife and I ended up buying a house last week and will be moving back to the Bay Area. Although we're upgrading to a 3 car garage, we'll have CC&R's and I need to downsize. The movers show up next Friday (3-11) morning at 9AM.

This truck is posted in the Classifieds section, but also posted on an online auction site because I'm forced to sell and don't have a lot of time.

Hate to hear you're selling it but someone will take it and make a slick ride out of it.

We're heading out to South Walnut Creek in the East Bay.

And thanks, but I've already got an alarm clock.
