There is a V6 401. Plus its fun when people take a double take because they just don't know.

sad fact is, going to a bbc/409 would still be about 250 lbs lighter LOL

Re: v6-409 are you joking?

Just two months ago I bought some 17 inch rims off ebay. I met the person to pick them up.I met him a rest stop as he was on his way to the turkey run in Daytona. He had a 60 swb with a 348 with ac & ps. This was so clean it looked factory if you didn't know you wouldn't know.I wish I had a pick of it.

Re: v6-409 are you joking?

GMC also had a 478 V6.

I drove my truck to a cruise-in after getting the 305 running and I heard some older gent walking by tell his buddy it was a 409 as he pointed to my truck. Most guys just came up and said they were stumped and asked what it was and asked about the plaid valve covers. I'm gonna miss those moments.

Re: v6-409 are you joking?

Here's one for ya'. When I was younger, well 40 years ago, I had a 1958 Dodge custom royal. It had a 350 in it. It was the first year for the 383-440 type motor. Same block but different heads. The valve covers where shaped similiar to the 348 and 409. And for a huge land barge it had some awesome power. No problem lightin' the hides. Whenever I had to pop the hood all the grease monkeys thought I'd put a 348 in the old beast. Who was I to say no. Even then nobody heard of a wavy valve covered 350 in an old mopar.
Sorry guys. Got a little nostalgic there. LOL!!!!

The distributor being in the front didn't give away the fact it wasn't a chevy block?

Re: v6-409 are you joking?

but that big old slug will still be running when a lot of the others will be in the form of lunch buckets. those engines were built to do a job. Patience also doesn't go with being young along with a few other attributes

Re: v6-409 are you joking?

i was joking around a bit there, i am used to driving older stuff with neat things you done see anymore,

i used to have a 4 door nova with a 230 straight 6 ran great it was no powerhouse either, but it was still cool. everybody wondered why i didint put a 350 in it

the racetrack i work for used to have an old firetruck that had the BIG v6 in it, everybody swore it was a 409 and while not fast even that big oll beast could of pulled the moon down.

the only thing i am worried about is if something breaks and finding a part for it.

who am i to say anything, i still use 283's for drag racing

I don't even have mine on the road yet and I hear that 283nova, using the stock 230 in my truck and people keep asking why I didn't put a small block in it!

this is true, there is a few that run stock and superstock ss/p or ss/pa for auto. one in seattle runs 11's not bad for an oll 265.

Holy Dam! Now I want to build a 478 V6 - 5.125" bore?!? What a torque sasquatch that would be! Would be about the epitome of awesome to put one in a 3/4 ton 4x4.

Re: v6-409 are you joking?

My 305 V6 has no problem laying down 1 strip of rubber

It doesn't have much trouble at all getting and keeping the truck up to speed.

And now that guys at Autozone don't argue with me anymore when I tell them what motor it is.

Re: v6-409 are you joking?

When I first started driving the second truck I bought, the hydramatic would bark the tires in second esp. when I got down on it. The first time it happened, scared the hell out of me, I got use to it, but brought it to a trans. shop and had the shifters adjusted so she wouldshift smother.

Yup". 1958 dodge had a 350. Even showed in the owner's manual. 59 got the 361 and tall deck 383. The 350 used the old style poly heads. 361 had new style 383 heads.
