raised bed mount ideas?

Wondering who has raised their bed floors and if you have pics? With all the stuff I've been adding Compressors, tank, fuel cell, four link it's getting kind of crowded on my 58. Right now I'm planning on welding 8 2x2x.250 pieces of square tube vertically over the original mounting points and boxing the up with some 3/16 and a 1/2-13 cage nut and adding some small gussets where I can fit them. Then welding 1 inch angle in the bed and just moving everything 6 3/4 up and extending the the filler piece in front of the tailgate. Anybody got some advice for their build? Pictures of what worked for you? Thanks in advance. TJ

You could always just tack new angle strips at the height you need them at.

Re: raised bed mount ideas?

I didn't want the whole floor raised so I just did it like this. The frame is built out of 1" by 1" by 1/16" wall tubing. I've got my 20 gallon gas tank under the front part and my air system will just fit behind the axle.

I am looking at the same concerns with my build too (Four link, rear gas tank). Hoping to raise the bed as little as possible. As mentioned not much room left. I am thinking that I will fasten the airtank parallel with the frame.

Will hopefully be addressing this in the next couple of weeks and can post pic's.

Bob did you custom make your wheel wells? Looks great.

Re: raised bed mount ideas?

Well with my impending transfer to Norfolk I've gotten rid of a few cars so I'm bringing the bed from the auto hobby shop to the house so I can work on raising the bed floor when I can't work on my truck. I want to get as much of the bed as possible but I've filled my frame up pretty uniformly. I'm gonna lose 7.5 inches of bed by the time I add wood, which leave me about 11.5 inches of bed. I like the 1x1 idea. My bed mounts are going to be overkill, 8 1/2 bolts for a shortbox. I will post pics as I get into it. I'm also in the middle of low budget home remodel so progress will be sporadic.

How is it out there? I've never set foot in Va before. Do they salt the roads?

We get very little snow, well, until the last month or so. LOL. When it does snow they do spread salt and sand. This has been a weird month, snow, and extended periods of really cold temps, 30's in the daytime. I can hear our midwestern and Canadian friends laughing as they read this.

The summers are hot and humid, but you'll be minutes from the ocean to cool off.

I'm not an expert on the Norfolk/Va Beach area but PM me if you have any questions and I'll try to help. I'm assuming you are Navy, I have a friend (another car guy) that is stationed in Norfolk that I could hit up with questions as well.

I'm fairly certain the military requires a Va Vehicle Inspection in order to get a base decal. Passing inspection can be a PIA with what we all do to our cars/trucks. Just PM me when the time comes.

Re: raised bed mount ideas?

Thanks for the compliments guys. Yes I made the wheel tubs out of replacement trailer fenders I got on line. Something like $15 ea. I bought the biggest ones (largest diameter tire clearance) and narrowed them and added the side. Search for the plain ones not galvanized 16 gage.
