Dvap junkyard in Phoenix AZ/Discovery Channel show

DVAP in Phoenix AZ this is my favorite junk yard they have a massive selection of all types of vehicles. They got to have about 30 Gm trucks here in various condition. In Az the vehicles are pretty much rust free good pickings. I figured I would share some pics with you guys of the 67-72 Gm trucks here but there are alot more than this. I guess also this yard also is going to have a upcoming Discovery Channel reality show about this place called Desert Car Kings. Here is a linkhttp://press.discovery.com/us/dsc/pr...-car-kings-wt/

Are they in Deer Valley?

Man those pics make me miss AZ (I grew up T 51ST ave and greenway). So next time you are on a freeway during rush hour take a pic for me so that I can be slapped back into reality.

Yeah Deer Valley Auto Parts it is a Pick a Part for classics a cool place to spend hours walking around to see all the cars and trucks.http://dvap.com/ I works nights though so all the traffic is going the other way so I miss all of the traffic. I will take some pics of all the others stuck in it every morn.

Re: Dvap junkyard in Phoenix AZ/Discovery Channel show

I saw the show and called them in the begining of February. I was asking for prices on a 68-9 buick skylark convertible. They want 4k for the basic turd condition I already have. No thanks.

I wish someone with a ton of money would go down to places like that, and buy all the cabs and beds and bring them to the Northeast. they'd make a killing.

I never could understand junking a rust free antique vehicle but more importantly, parting one out! These vehicles are screaming for restorations but looks like they will just become more cars/trucks that will soon be gone forever.

Re: Dvap junkyard in Phoenix AZ/Discovery Channel show

I watched the show, an episode where they picked up a '66 chevelle SS and attempted to restore it. The old man agonized over the paint color and debated what would make it "worth more" and in the end they left the crappy mags, chrome junk in the engine bay and lot of other details untouched. They didn't really do justice to the car at all and I didn't find much of interest in the storyline. Half of the show was about a search for SS emblems which were supposedly impossible to find unless you have GOOGLE and $20.

I commend them for being fellow car guys and having an awesome yard but seriously what is the criteria to get a show because I know 1000 better restorers...

TOTAL HACKS in that regard.

Re: Dvap junkyard in Phoenix AZ/Discovery Channel show

I think its more about trying to make an affordable "restore" than a Chip Foose overhaulin restore. I mean really, they don't make alot of money on them.

The junkyard may be cool, but that show is pure torture.

Re: Dvap junkyard in Phoenix AZ/Discovery Channel show

Too bad that they have come to stacking up vehicles. Parts may be rust free, but at some point they are all going to be dented.

Up here, there are all types of yards. Some that stack, but a good portion that actually spread them out , but I guess there are yards that really do not give a crap about the old cars with real metal, that makes real good rebar.

After watching the show, the term you cant polish a turd comes to mind. I know they dont show all the work being done but from what I have seen leaves a lot to be desired.

Man do I ever agree with that.

I hate that they use the term restoration, they are just freshening(or screwing) up a survivor vehicle which ever way you look at it.

What about the dingle berry that props a bumper against the lift, then knocks it over into that back glass for the Barracuda, why was the glass stored in the work area of the shop anyway ???

I just watch it for the Three Stooges effect, pretty comical I just wish Discovery would come to me for a reality series.....they have more cash than brains for some of their shows.

I love seeing the cars though.

Sons of Guns....Great Show....now that rocks....cool weapons....everyone loves shooting or blowing something up

Re: Dvap junkyard in Phoenix AZ/Discovery Channel show

Yeah, these guys are not perfectionists to be sure, just a bunch of guys cobbling together old cars on a budget - like a lot of us. I know that how they do the cars isn't very extensive, but the fake drama and the cheesy plot lines are fairly entertaining. Plus, they aren't super greedy, they sell them fairly cheap. Kinda fun to watch.

Re: Dvap junkyard in Phoenix AZ/Discovery Channel show

I love how these guys get thier facts right they did a 68 charger tonight and they try to say they were in constant production since the 60s. only problem is the quit building them in 78 and them restarted around 05... idiots

OCC also did the same thing when they built the Lincoln Mark LT bike. Jr stated that he "thought it was fitting that the first bike assembled in the new shop was for Lincoln's first truck" whitch is right if you ignore the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood...
